Blackvue with lazy GPS.

I Had my Blackvue replaced with a failed GPS unit.

Despite Pittasoft saying it has a " ...built-in high sensitivity..." GPS the new replacement takes upwards of 17minutes before getting a GPS signal lock on the first trip of the day.

Today on a visit to the pub, a run of 35 minutes in open countryside, it failed to get a GPS fix at all. I don't really want to wire it through a 'power save' so its permanently live.

Apart from wanting the Blackvue to perform as advertised: the car can be driven by other drivers so the speed and location trace is important to us.

Anyone have the same problem?

Anyone have a better performing make of camera?

My supplier offered to replace this second unit on the basis of "3rd time lucky".

However I've decided to try a different make which is due Monday - I will report back on its ability to pick up a GPS fix quickly.

I have a Road Angel De-Lux unit that gets a GPS fix within seconds which suggests its not the heated screen that's blocking reception.

I find the front screen can block sat signals. I tired my garmin and it took ages to get a signal.

The heated screen's elements will attenuate the signal to some extent so its a matter of finding a product with good sensitivity.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an in-car camera system on the market that has a remote aerial option.

I'm wondering if its possible to get into and 'fit' a connection for an external aerial - sure it'll destroy the warranty but it might be worth it (or I get bored enough to play).

I think I have fixed mine Confused

1. Removed SD card and formatted it

2. Downloaded latest FW - http://www.blackvue.com/en/contents/sub3.a...hstr=dr500

3. Installed FW on SD card

4. Replaced SD card in BV and restarted

5. Removed SD card and formatted again

6. Replaced SD card and restarted BV - GPS light cam on again for first time in ages

7. Removed SD card and adjusted settings to my requirements - miles, intervals, etc

8. Replaced SD card and all working ok at the moment

Was a load of Censored having to run in and out of house - why you can't use a smart phone is beyond me Evil or Very Mad

^^^^ That's a result.

My supplier has mentioned how sensitive the Blackvue is to the quality of SD card (must be HD) and the method of formatting.

I'm in a mind to 'break' into the camera and see if I can execute a mod. similar to Flack's "Cheap GPS" post where he describes how he found a £6.49 solution to a failing GPS aerial in the shark-fin. The 'external aerial could then be position in the corner of the screen away from the heated wires.

The worst that can happy is that I screw £200+ worth of camera Big Cry

^^^ Yes mine was the same - the issue was always on the first trip of the day when it could take more than 20minutes. Once it had got a fix then, if the next trip was within an hour or two, it would achieve a fix within minutes.

So you could be right - I asked makers Pittasoft if it could be the relationship between the internal capacitor used as a battery and their BIOS commands; they simply referred me back to the retailer.

The camera I have decided to buy as a replacement has 20 minute battery which allows you to take the camera out of the car and record the scene of an accident or other event.
