Shutting off front sensors when towing can not be right - it must be a mistake and they can't be bothered to sort it Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Hi Guys

You have got me thinking about mine so I've just been out to test. My current RR is a Black edition delivered in Feb this year.

I can confirm with a light board fitted to the towing electrics the rear AND front sensors are switched off. The rear camera is still in operation.

Taking the 13pin plug out does not put them back on. You have to switch off and re-start.

So i guess its a new "feature"

Of all the stupid half baked ideas ......... Evil or Very Mad

If it worked on the MY10 why change it unless it was for the better Shocked

SWMBO moans enough at getting out and watching me reverse but now she will have to run backwards and forwards it will be unbearable Big Cry

I drive/tow, site and level, pack/unpack, do water/waste, connect electric, put up awning, etc and she says caravanning is hard work when asked by friends - I sometimes agree but not if I'd slept most of the way then walk in and turn on the oven or stick a meal in the microwave Thud Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Lol to SWMBO comments.

I have not had an issue yet with a caravan or towing my competition defendner. I guess the easy way around it is to pull on to pitch. Turn car off, take 13 pin plug out, switch back on and park away

Hope fully the squealing of the rear sensor will wake SWMBO up and when she complains kick here out of the truck and tell her to help the reversing !!

I'm off to devon tomorrow towing so better watch the front end !

Tried that but it just squeals because rear detect caravan so impossible to tell what's happening at front Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Option would be to turn the sound down and just use the "radar" display on center console. if it shows red = stop ! Jon Witts

Its probably some cost saving or something to do with the screen display (which wasnt there on the 2011 or 10) meaning it cant do it.

That is crazy though...part of me wonders if the inner rear sensors should be the only two to turn off and if the system was good enough, change the rear tones...far to much to expect Exclamation Mike

After attaching a trailer I would have expected pressing the 'Parking Aid Switch' would have activated the front sensors, obviously not.

Page in the handbook says it does, so has this been done?

Could this be the reason I'm moving to a Cayenne S Diesel?

The world will surely end if we don't have working front and rear sensors Big Cry - whatever happened to driver concentration and care ?

Perhaps a 10 minute call to JLR Customer Service to ask the question would solve the speculation.

Might be a good choice. I've thought about the Cayenne as a replacement to the RRS at times myself. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I stupidly thought paying £30k to upgrade from MY10 to MY13 I would gain features not lose them but admit I managed pretty well in all my previous LR's without Front sensors - mind you the dearest of them was half the cost of my current RRS - I can also manage without Air Con, cruise, etc but would I want to Confused

As for a 10 minute call to JLRCS solving speculation or issues Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Have now had some feedback from caravan talk forum and it appears front sensor function has gone when towing on rrs and d4 Shocked

We are unsure if this is a mistake or deliberate so Liam if you are following this can you please clarify or advise who to speak to when you're back from leave Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
