My brother wants to employ someone to run his business. The chap he wants requires £55000 to buy a new house what is the best way he can go about paying this?

Don't try and play with tax on what is "benefits-in-kind". Once your tax man sees these tactics they will give you a hard time on everything. If you should become the subject on an in-depth review it will cost you a bunch.

In my opinion; if you're appointing an Accountant with any professional reputation he/she should be well aware of the best and correct procedure to optimise the tax - if he/she wants to sail close to the wind on his own or your tax affairs then this is an indication that this is not a wise choice of prospective employee as someone to trust with you company's cash!!
