Problem with key. Sometimes it doe snot ope nthe door

So ok. IS there a battery in the remote? Is this common. Sometimes I have to press the button many times. Any ideas?
I went to a electrical shop and they said it charges it self through the car. 91 BMW 850CSI

They charge using an inductance loop... Wirelessly when in the ignition, the battery is a small panasonic nicad that fails after a period of time and can be changed by breaking the key open and desoldering the old battery and replacing with a new one.

I did mine last month on my spare key, battery cost about 5 quid from ebay and took about an hour to swap over (after stabbing myself getting the fob apart ) and have been using it ok since as my main key !

Unless the switch itself is on the way out.. In which case push the third button to see if this responds each time its pressed Why?.. Because i can....

So if I press the third one and the trunk opens it means what?

This is the battery?

OK. So is there only one actuator or in every door?
I will try to source it used and do it myself. Should it be a big problem? 91 BMW 850CSI

Seems a fairly common problem with the door locks. See this thread and my post for a detailed link for how to do it.

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic23170.html?highlight=

Hope that helps.

On mine I have found that when I changed the key to open all doors it unlocked every time. Now I have bought a new (Car, not key Very Happy ) battery and it works all the time again so may also be a sign of the car battery going. 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

All my doors unlock. The problem is that when it stands overnight, sometimes it is hard to get it to open in the morning.
I have to press it many times untill it opens and flashes the lights. 91 BMW 850CSI

If the third button operates the boot and the first button doesnt unlock then the battery is probably ok and the issue is a worn button or door mechanism sticking..

The battery is a panasonic vl2330 and looks like a button battery with solder tags Why?.. Because i can....

The Definitive 'how to' thread in the technical section has a link that explains how to change the rechargeable battery.
