When i had my 2.7 remapped i had the same problem, too much smoke on kick down or hard acceleration, so i had my map tweeked to try and reduce it, but it also reduced the power very slightly, mine wasn't set up on a rolling road though, it was an interface that plugs into the cars ecu and is all done via email, so i ended up with 3 maps, one smokey, one a little less smokey, and the original map, which isn't ideal if you tow a trailer or caravan on a regular basis or Pc plod is behind you going up hill. |

To be honest, that was what spoilt the pleasure in driving it with the remap on, the power delivery was great though, it had so much more grunt it was a totally different car but to see the plums of black smoke trails behind was not good, also shortly after the remap i had an egr valve fail i asked myself, was this helped by the remapp, i don't know but it was covered by warranty so i wasn't too bothered. |

Most generic maps dump fuel in to compensate the extra boost etc. Hence the smoke. Ideally you need to find someone who can live map your Range. |

Not a good remap indeed, ideally the car should be checked over, remapped, tested and checked by the supplier before parting with any cash. "Roads ? Where we're going there are no roads." Back to the future. |

Was it AMD you had an issue with , as the guys there are superb and of course you'd be getting a bespoke remap thats tested on a RR and dyno'd etc.

AmD are great. I am a technical sponsor of the AmD tuning BTCC race car Shaun & the lads look after all my cars.

Live mapping is the best indeed, but costs a little more than a mere remap. As you say though, it takes serious knowledge of an engine's operation to do it properly and this is beyond mere chip resellers. "Roads ? Where we're going there are no roads." Back to the future. |

I have a BAS Map on my car - improved my 0-100kph time by over 2 secs and I do not have any more smoke than before ie none that is noticeable from the drivers seat.

Yes afraid so, but it was around/ before the time that the Essex branch was set up,.. I was told by them over the phone that is was probably a MAF? problem that was already there before the remap.. |

Thanks Skipper , I didn't realise that the AmD map was a generic map. I assumed as it was done at their premises on a RR and Dyno tested that they did it 'live' and bespoke for each car........you live and learn

The right thing to have done would be making sure the car was running properly, replacing the MAF if necessary before putting a new map on it, imo the suppliers of the remap should have fixed or insisted you fix the car before doing any work on it "Roads ?
