Maybe it is different down south, where private tuition is more widely accepted, but here we have a private school along the road, and about half a dozen kids round about go to it, never met such a bunch of inbreds as these. some of the parents from my kids school went to it, and most seem to have battled depression/alcohol/drugs/crime at some point! yes they promote confidence, but lack humility, yes they get good grades, but chuck you out if you dont perform so as to make the results look good.
my two will probably never be clever enough to be doctors or whatever, but at least they are happy, and that is what counts!
just my opinion!
cheers

Sounds like a top school in Scotland! Wink

Seriously there are schools and schools and just because you pay for it doesn't mean it's any good. I would like to think the school my children attend is up to the grade. My daughter was in a double national championship winning hockey team so they seem to get the sport right which is one of the reasons we go private as sport in the state schools around my way is virtually non existent. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

VA, it suposedly is one of the top schools!! , this year the exam results at higher level, was 97%, so yes they get results! i can see your point all the same, but you could save a fortune moving up here and getting quite possibly the best free education availiable!

I have the Private vs State debate all the time with my friends who went non-private.........

My school was next to a "rough School" as I would call it, there were good uns and bad uns from both but I would say 75% of the people in my school turned out well and went on to do well and probably 80% from that school are thick, dole scrounging scum.

Statistics paint the picture for me.

i went to private and state schools and a good private school is worth its weight.

i disagree with comments here about what a private school is.

Smaller class sizes a focus on the pupil - the time to invest in the pupil and expectation that top grades will be achieved and that the effort is put in to making that happened.

Admittedly a while ago my private education standards were 2 years ahead of the state system in some areas.

But some of the comments here are true - you still have to work, there are good and bad state and private schools etc...but it does give you a better chance. Mike

Both my sister and brother went to private schools, I didn't and I've ended up with a better career than the pair off them.
Also my seven year old niece goes to private school which is 1k a month, utterly crazy in my opinion.

I was thrown out of both private and state schools.

Brothers both went to private And left with more qualifications yet I earn more.

Private was good but there was a nurturing of the kids with the richer parents.
State was good but bigger classes. Both schools had the same amount of drugs and alcohol available.
If your children are to experiment with either they will do regardless of what type of school. Sad but true.

Liked both schools but I was a problem child.
