United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Java Black
URGENT: NEED INSURANCE BELOW £2k!

Just joined the club with a RR Sport 2.7 TDV6 SE 2006. Went for the 2.7 specifically cause the insurance is significantly cheaper online if the engine is below 3L.

Moneysupermarket gives me the cheapest quote of £1,780. I'd be fine with that cause: I dont have a no-claims bonus as it's my first car (tho had license for 8 years, I'm 28) and want my girlfriend on the insurance so she can drive occasionally (who has a license for less than a year and is 23 - she's the reason its so expensive).

Trouble is the modified 22" overfinch wheels: if I declare *any* modifications the insurance premium goes up to OVER £4K.

I dont want to risk not declaring the modifications.

Would love to hear from any insurers or members who could help, happy to pay £2k per year but 4k is just too much!

I'm on 07818661960 just in case you've got a quote for me.

Anyone else quotes and prices won't reflect on what you pay as prices are down to the individual

Guess your going to have to bite the bullet and pay £4k or buy some standard wheels to keep the costs down

So you've bought a car without checking things like insurance? Hmmm what's the worst that could happen! Surprised

Havn't you had use of a company car? If so then you might be able to get a discount through proving you have been driving a company car for x number of years without a claim but you will need a letter from the company to prove this. Thumbs Up As far as your girl friend is concerned, do you really want her to drive a 2.5 ton motor so soon after passing her test and risk messing up your own insurance Shocked

1. Take the girlfriend off the policy. You can hire a lot of taxis for that sort of money!

2. Sell the 22s and buy some 20s. You'll end up with some cash in your pocket.

Oh, and I have four 20s with tyres available for £400 Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I agree with ADY and RRSTDV8 take your girlfriend of.. Also dont rely on just the comparison sites try some of the others, Churchill and Direct Line. I run six vehicals and Direct Line have been 50% cheaper than the comparison sites. I've just insured my 2010 TDV8 with them market value £42,000. for £186.50 no bull. It is with multi car and home insurance discount though. Martyn

Hello ak102,

Call the insurance companies (not on line) and tell them a lot of lies like: you have no work, a friend is paying for the insurance, your dog is sick, ask them to knock off the other unnecessary covers like breakdown cover. If they ask you why you keep an expensive car like RRS tell them that your parents sold a house and bought the car as a present for you, if you sell it you will break their harts. You need to start a friendly conversation with the person from the other end of the line.

If they say is not possible ask them to put you on the line with a manager. Don't tell them you upgraded the wheels, get the insurance cheap than call them in a month and ask them how much would they charge you if you do the upgrade NEGOCIATE WITH THEM (worked for me).

You need to spend a day calling many of them.

Best deal I got for my wife was from Tesco. To get the extra discounts from Tesco you need to have a Tesco store card.

Good luck.

Toni, advising someone to insure a car without modifications is a little risky IMHO Shocked
Yes I know not everyone declares these things and they are 'only' wheels, but if he/his girlfriend are involved in a claim, they could be down a lot more money than the £4k being quoted here. Wink ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

From my experience you end up cheaper if you modify the car after you are insured. Get the insurance first than call and notify them about the changes. Insurance with allready modified cars is much higher. !!! RRS TDV8 !!!

I really can't see why people want to modify what is already a fantastic vehicle to look at and to drive?

Just my thoughts......
