Anyone fitted a solar trickle charger on SC sport

Hi,

As above, ours get used a a school run / shopping tool, so lots of small runs and taking it's toll on battery, has anyone used and wired in a solar charger?

Thanks

I bought one that plugs into the 12v socket while the panel is left in the windscreen.

It lives in my daughters Ford Fiesta and has kept the battery topped up while she is away at uni. It appears to do a very good job and since fitting it the car has never had a problem with a low or flat battery.

I think that I bought it from Amazon for around the £25 mark.

I can't see how a Plug-in solar charger would work when the 12v socket is isolated from the battery when ignition is switched off?
I've used 12v solar panels on my Discovery camper which have a non-switchable route to the battery to charge them.

I have used the 12v trickle chargers that come with the crocodile clips directly onto the battery but have not needed it on my Sport since the battery drain seems virtually zero when the cars parked up.

Maybe someone else has better experiences with these gadgets? Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.

Not all cars have the cigarette lighter socket isolated when the keys are removed.

I'm aware of that Jim. The Sport's socket is switched though so the 12v accessory relay would need bridging.

I'd be inclined to use a solar charger with a regulator to prevent spikes harming the delicate MFU or ECU. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.
