Hi All,

Yesterday we had a flat tyre. Stopped to change it and husband put the jack in the wrong location looks like he might have put it in front of where it should have been.

Car started to level itself and then there was a loud hissing noise.

Car was recovered to Dealership as locking wheel nut had seized and couldn't be removed.

I picked the car up today and when I start it not on every occassion but most there is this compressor sound.

Could he have damaged it ?

What's the remedy?

Is it expensive to fix?

Can I drive the car safely ?


He is threatening to get rid of the car as all we seem to have had is problems from day 1

can't find anything in the search to say whether it's safe to drive or not ?? anyone any idea or should I get it recovered ? I did drive it today and the compressor sound came on when I first started the car not every time but lasted about 1 minute then went off again...  Katrina

I did the same a couple of weeks ago - sounds as if the compressor is all OK and working as it should - the air compressor is just topping up the air tank and will most often do it for a while on start up . The reason you can here it is because it is most likely the mount is damaged and the insulation cracked - should be OK to drive but it need to be checked and fixed quickly.

I have pulled the insulating box off mine and pending a repair I have the compressor strapped to the chassis - all safe did 500klm yesterday on unsealed roads and is all OK.

The compressor is attached to the car by an alloy bracket which almost always snaps under the weight of the car if used as a jacking point.
Bit of a pain to swap due to the top mounting bolt but it is possible, replacements are on ebay for about £50.

The bracket is shown on its side in the ebay listing with the bottom being to the left if you know what I mean.

yep bracket is knackered and it seems one of the pipes has gone too so it will be in next week to be fixed guy told me not to worry hazard of owning RRS lol... but it's not the end of the world. He is going to take one of an old compressor and place it on ours so hopefully the bill won't be too bad. Thanks to all that replied hubby still in the dog house  Katrina
