Do i change my 08 TDV8 for 2011 V6 ?

I have a remapped TDV8 RRS which has done 40,000 miles and am thinking of getting a new 2011 V6 RRS . What is the general view about how the new performs against the old and is it really worth changing as the TDV8 is a excellent vehicle . I am told the new V6 has improved fuel figures but im getting 25 around town and 29 on a run . Basically what I'm asking do I change or stick with what i've got ? Many thanks for all your advice in advance Confused 2008 TDV8

It's a tough one. Especially coming from a remapped TDV8 I think you will be disappointed with the 3.0 TDV6 but try one and see. The interior is a huge step forward and it's a much nicer place to be. How about trying to find a nearly new MY10 TDV8?

The 3.0 TDV6 will give about 5mpg more than a standard TDV8. There still aren't many companies who can remap the 3.0 and I've not read any reviews. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Hi,

I'm in exactly the same predicament. I have a JE mapped TDV8 with 40k miles, which is now 3 years old.
I think the new interior and iPhone integration on the new RRS is great, but I really don't think I would be happy with the TDV6 engine after the tuned TDV8.
I was tempted by the FFRR TDV8, but it just looks and feels so big.

I feel inclined to keep the TDV8 and wait to see if LR put the new V8 into the RRS.

I too really wanted a new tdv8 but after driving the 3.0ltr i felt it was very good, for me the only thing lacking was that v8 rumble but thats all. So ive ordered a new v6.

We'll see. Smile

I don't have any inside information, but I can't see them wanting to miss the opportunity to sell more units of the TDV8. I would expect an announcement within the next year.

...but maybe that's just wishful thinking. Laughing

Same question for me, i was tempted by an autobiography v6 with exterior design kit. the tdv8 engine is so good but the tdv6 interior and design (autobiography ) are so beautiful. It's difficult and i don't want to be disapointed by the v6. My v8 is not remapped and perhaps with à remapped v6... RRS TDV8 HSE java black, privacy glass, bluetooth, clear side repetears.

What figures are your mapped TDV8s making?

The new TDV6 is 240bhp standard and around 600lb/ft torquies.

A remap will take the new engine to around 300bhp and a shed load of torque.

I'd like to see a new V6 which has been mapped against a mapped TDV8 - I think it'd be closer than you'd think

Plus there's the much nicer interior of the 2010 MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

Have a remapped TDV6 at 280 HP which is safe it does not live with my TDV8 Sad not even close esp as you get motoring think your Torque n0's at 600LB/Ft are a little optimistic Smile 2014 5.0SC AB

Sorry - got my Nm and lb/ft mixed up.... Still then the new 3.0V6 gives 240bhp and approx 450lb/ft standard.

I'm sure a remapped engine with approx 300bhp and it must be close to 550lb/ft if you're working on a map giving you up to 30% increases?

The TDV8 standard is what - 265bhp and 450lb/ft - surely a remapped TDV6 would be quicker than a standard TDV8?

Remapped 8's according to SuperChips should give 315bhp and 580lb/ft so there'd be no contest there really...

All depends on what you want I guess MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

V6 is safe at 280HP these are proper numbers proved i am told by Bas and Evolve with Rolling road information.

V8 is safe with toque delimiters altered in place with 100LB/FT+ more torque more than a mapped 3.0 V6

Think BAS although i have not used him would confirm the numbers.

All i can tell you is our 3.0 mapped does not come close to either of our TDv8 motors this shows up even more when you put a trailer on the back...

for the sake of 4 MPG diff between our cars i would not buy another V6 from either a power situation but also the 3.0 is an obv diesel when you are inside the car ( noise ) the V8 is super smooth and sounds nothing like a knocker Smile 2014 5.0SC AB

My (unmapped) 3.0 has 2,300 on the clock now and is loosening up nicely. I have to say that in my opinion this thing flies for a 2.5+ ton car when you have the engine in the sweet spot, which the gearbox does automatically for you. What the 3.0 does NOT do, of course, is give a never ending surge of acceleration, just bursts of it instead, but in spirited *everyday* driving I honestly think it is excellent. Note, I came from a 420BHP XKR, and yes the 3.0 feels slower(!) but... I have adapted and I would not go back.

It also flies off the line if you need to make a sharp getaway, and mine cruised at 125 MPH (tracker GPS measurement, not speedo reading) on the autobahn with more left in it, stable as a rock and quiet too. I drove 1,600 miles across Europe in winter conditions last week and it returned 32 MPG average (this included fast (very fast) motorway runs, Alpine routes, much town driving, and some engine idling to warm the car / wait for ferries etc).

I'm seriously impressed with the 3.0. See if you can borrow one with a few miles under it's belt for a few hours and take it for a normal drive, then you'll see what I mean. It may not respond to a thrashing the same way as a TDV8 but it sure feels perky and modern. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Thanks for the write up ilard. Have been told by a few people that the 3.0ltr is a bit quicker off the line too(than the v8)The v8 is a great engine but not as much in it as v8 current owners would have you believe! Wink

See my post we have both and sorry they do not compare off the line the TDv8 murders our 3.0 with a map on both even my wife who does not drive them hard always comments on the diff between the two engines.

I think the 3.0 lends itself as a good daily car but not if you want the car to work for you esp if you are pulling a bit of weight behind you then its real chalk and cheese. The V8 is also far more refined in terms of cabin noise and Torque across the range. 2014 5.0SC AB
