RR SPORT TDV6 vs TDV8

Hello there!

I'm Italian and I'd like the RR Sport !
When the lr does only 2.7, I was always reluctant to consider a rrsport with a 2.7 diesel because I think that it was really a little engine for this big and with a big weight car

Now the 3.0 V6, lr says that their did a good engine with good performance, I don't know what they meant for that but I means perfomance when I need to takeoff a other car push down throttle full and the engine need power!

I know well landorver world, Im a defender td5 owner and last week bought a new my2010 and Im waiting, I need a new sport suv to replace my E class mercedes
I have a Lotus Esprit, so I know well about the performance but certainly I don't ask a rocket, the weight is the problem of that car but I want know what you think about the new engine V6 and the V8

I look with attention also at the fuel and savefuel, I will use it for many miles however I want know what's the best engine for it

thanks a lot and sorry for my bad English. Alessandro

A

Italy 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Hi Alessandro,

Im english but I live in Italy near Udine, were are you?

The new v6 seem to have nearly the power of the TDV8 but the economy of the V6. I Have the TDV8 and average around 11.8 L/100km and when I drive reasonably spirited it goes up to 12.5. My wife who dives very peacefully only av. 11.5.

The power from the TDV8 does however become addictive.

Having recently upgraded from the 3.0 TDV6 to a TDV8 there really isn't much in it. The TDV8 is only fractionally quicker overall but there is more hesitation off the line which the TDV6 doesn't have. You will also loose around 4mpg with the TDV8 but the V8 does sound much nicer.

I would say go for the 3.0 TDV6. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

next week hopefully, loved the 2006 Rimini Red, but despite the improvements and the 3 litre, just not bonded, its like the girfriend you like but dont love, and have to dump ever so gently in the hope that you will love the next. Will miss the keyless entry and start, best thing ever Big Cry bless the PPE purple people eater

Luxembourg 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

I ordered a MY10 3.0 V6 and after a long story took delivery of a MY10 3.6 V8. I am happy because the V8 came with some things such as Dynamic Response and paddle gearshift that I had not ordered on the V6. On the other hand, the car I accepted is a different colour (Ipanema Sand ordered, Stornoway Grey accepted) and slightly different spec (++engine upgrade, +/-suspension upgrade or downgrade, depending on how you look at it, ++paddle gear shift, --privacy glass, --no premium stereo)

Overall, after about 7 weeks ownership of a "better" car, I think that I would have preferred the v6 in the spec I ordered. If I was given to burning around the place at warp factor 10, I'd vote for the V8 ... but I prefer the slower, more gentle ride of the V6. Wink

Tell the truth, I still prefer the 3 year-old 2.7 D3 with winch, mud etc. Everything works more slowly, which suits a middle-age bod like me. Mr. Green Every silver lining has a cloud

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 SE Stornoway Grey

They are totally different in the drivers seat. I have driven both and I am picking up my TDV8 today.

The V6 gives the the sort of performance you expect from a big 4wd and is perfectly fine in the Disco.

The TDV8 gives you the sort of performance you expect to get in a 4wd with "Sport" at the end of it's name.

The TDV8 is the engine for the RRS. The TDV6 is the engine for the Disco. I have no doubt about that.

If you want the TDV8 you better be quick as I believe it is not be available in MY11 spec.

I really do disagree sorry. I've switched from the 3.0 and there is very little difference. Yes the 2.7 was much slower but with the 3.0 they have closed the cap such that it is now very close. I don't believe in day to day driving you will notice the difference. Yes with the 3.0 you may wish it went a bit faster but with the TDV8 you will feel the same. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

someone say that soon will come a new engine that replace the 3.6 V8, someone say for a 4.0 diesel

I don't want buy a engine old on a new car and certainly I want a engine that give me the aspectative for a RR called sport

what about the really difference in performance like 0-60mph and speed max in both model

maybe fort the new cayenne the 3liter is ok !
