Broken Alternator???

Hi Guys - my battery warning light had been illuminated for a day and whilst driving down the motorway on Friday all electrical systems started to fail (suspension, terrain etc) until everything died and I slowly coasted to a halt...........

I had originally thought the warning light was linked to a corroded tailgate switch causing a short but the RAC guy said that it looked like the alternator had broke as the battery wasn't being charged when the car was running.

The car's an 05 plate HSE with 85K on the clock and my questions are:

1. Has this happened to anyone else?
2. How much should I be charged for a replacement alternator if this is the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Martin

Hi Stiggy........same thing happened to me recently, its no big deal expect the new alternator to cost about £300!!

The only problem I had was a 10 day delay getting hold of the new part blamed on the volcanic ash "no fly" carry on!! RRS TDV6 HSE Giverney/Ivory.
