Dead battery...how to put the vehicle in neutral???? HELP

Hello,

Have an issue with my wife's RRS. Battery was dead this morning and needed to give it a boost but my other vehicle was outside and it's too big to put in my garage so I tried to put the vehicle in neutral to push it outside but it will not go out of gear. Is there something I am missing here? How do I put the vehicle in neutral with a dead battery??? I know I can pick up a battery booster but that is the next option if I cannot get the RRS out of the garage.

Thanks in advance.

That shouldn't work if battery completely dead as the solenoid on the brake pedal will need power to unlock the gear selector

If this is the case, I imagine I'm screwed and have to purchase a battery charger Crying or Very sad . I don't understand why this would not be possible since whenever I usually need a boost the vehicle is always parked in the worst spots to try and get a boost from another vehicle Confused . Is it just the RRS with this design or are other sport utility vehicles like this?

mine goes flat after a short time too, had too many flat battries in the 2.5 years of ownership Sad
Now I have a small solar panel that I put on the dashboard and connect to the battery if I'm leaving it un-attended for a while, at home I use a Datong Ultimate II battery conditioner if I'm leaving it at home in the garage for more than a week.
The Solar panel won't recharge a flat battery but it will keep a fully charged one topped up for a month or more. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

There is an emergency release procedure. I know how it's done in a D3, but for the RRS, if it's not outlined in the manual, try the GTR online.

Hi,
I had already the same problem. To be able to put the gearbox in neutral position you have to connect a battery charger on the battery for a few minutes. This will give you the power you need to put the gearbox in neutral position.

As MAW said, EPB emergency there is but I too have not heard of emergency gear select release! Interesting.

Disco, maybe you could post the emergency procedure for the D3 so that we can at least try if it works with the RRS. Malaysia Boleh!

Good advice. Or you could just carry the jump battery to the car and jump start with it. Malaysia Boleh!

In the D3, you remove the trim panel behind the EPB switch. The 'interlock' override switch is a small white tab that you can lift up and then move the gear lever out of park.

First make sure the car cannot move if the gear lever is taken out of Park or the EPB accidently released (by chocking the wheels if necessary).

To access the gear selector emergency release tab, remove the small trim piece in front of the EPB switch by pressing its' release tab through the small slot behind the gear lever and lifting the trim up.

Looking down in front of the EPB switch, the gear release tab is the white nylon lever on RH side to the front. Rotate this anticlockwise viewed from the LH side of car. Hold it up against the return spring whilst moving the gear lever out of park.
