visiting the Dealer

Guys, I'm visiting the dealer this week so I'm looking for any tips on..........

what to ask?
What to look for?
What to avoid?

as the RRS is new to me I dont know what mods if any to look for or avoid, any RRS specific issues or warnings, software updates, recalls etc etc it will be an 06 or 07 plate TDV6

THIS is where this forum will be invaluable for new (and maybe some experienced) RRS owners.

Thanks Clones are people two

This sort of question gets asked an awful lot, maybe we should look at putting a buyers guide together.

Any volunteers?

The 1st thing I would always ask a dealer when buying a used car
is has it ever been in a accident and had accident damage repaired.
If he says no and you later have problems and find that it has then
you have some rights. By the same token I'd always get an HPI check
& an AA inspection carried out on a high value 2nd hand car. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Avoid referring to them as 'stealer' to improve your chances of good customer service. Wink

James - Is the dealer responsible for an HPI check on a used vehicle that they are selling?

Technically no they're not responsible, the buyer is, in order to take necessary steps to protect themselves.

However, if it's a Land Rover Approved sale (via a proper LR dealer) then part of the 'Approved' process is to carry out a provinance check via HPI or a similar company. This is not a legal requirement, however it is designed to give customer peace of mind, and it also is good business practice to ensure that you do not buy and sell something that you may later regret.

If it's a normal dealer then they don't have to carry out a check at all, however I would have thought that most would.

I'd say that 50% of vehicles we see have a marker, whether it be finance or a plate change. As a company we either have to have written confirmation that the finance has been settled (and has been cleared) or we settle the finance ourselves. Sometimes HPI etc can be a little slow with updating their info, therefore something showing as being on finance may well have been settled within the last few days. Also, certain dealer groups will finance their used vehicles, therefore all of their used stock will show as having a financial interest, however as a retailer the responsibility is theirs to ensure that you are sold a vehicle without what is called a financial encumberance.

If you need a specific answer then drop me a PM with the details.

detailed answer James. Thanks.
I bought my car from a LRA dealer and assumed that it had been HPI'd.
Thanks for the explanation Thumbs Up

Don't worry, the term 'stealer' is pretty standard forum chit-chat. I just can't help commenting each time I see it mentioned! Laughing
