Haven't been to LR Service for a while

Since my car is on a UK '05' plate and out of warranty I have been using my local garage to service the flying brick, and very happy I am too with that (saving me a fortune!) and the wheels do come off at the service too!

I am wondering if I should book my car into LR to receive any software/firmware updates for the onboard computers? Do I assume that they are like Micro$oft Windoze and require continual service patching? Any advice would be very welcome.

PS. Yesterday I had the 'HDC System Fault' following by the amber Christmas tree illuminations 5 times in one journey so I am off to buy a new battery so thanks again for all of the advice on here.
