FLAT TIRE: RIM PUNCTURE!!!

Went off road this weekend....3 meters that is...

The artificial road was made of coarse gravel(?), but deeper than i calculated.
The car sunk in the gravel all the way up to the bottom of the car.
Got out, to clear the stones at the side, to protect the wheel paint from getting damaged.
Then i noticed the left front wheel was deflated.

At the tire center, i found out that the rupture was not in the tire, but in the inside of the rim. (The flat part parallel to the road)
A shallow dent, the size of a coin, with in the middle a rupture of 7 milimeters.
The technician told me it happened because one of the rocks got stuck between the rim and the brake assembly..and that it is repairable.
Told him to wait untill tomorow, so:

Is it??????? What should it cost???? Better to buy a replacement rim???

I would get a new wheel - your life depends on the 4 wheels and a few euros is a small price to pay. If you have a space saver wheel you could replace this with the defective wheel. Look at ebay for wheels - should be able to pick a 19 inch one up for about 100 euros 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I agree with VA, safety is important and you can put the old one on as a matching spare. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Agree also, there are only 4 points of contact on the road at anytime and they are your tyres which are (Of course) fitted to your rims. Don't cut corners on any vehicle, but especially a 2.7 tonne 4x4! Shocked Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Yes, you all are right. I feel the same about safety.

But the shop owner said, he can ship the wheel to a specialized wheel center and they can fix it 100%.

Then i could keep it as a spare.

Anybody has experience with this repair?

Again i don't wanna cut corners, safety first!!

I am sure the correct facility could repair as new but also what is the cost of that vs a 'new' rim of fleabay - i wouldn't imagine the appropriate repair from a metals viewpoint to be insignificant

Just my thoughts

Wales 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I had a wheel repaired a few years ago on a 5 series, I had it in the bottom of my boot as my spare.

I got a flat tyre on the motorway and with the winter months arriving shortly, I decided to get the whole car re-shod when I went for the repair. They put 5 new tyres on and when I asked if they had put the "repaired" wheel back in the boot they looked at me with shrugging shoulders.

Of all 3 fitters that worked there, each came up with which they thought was the repaired wheel but none picked the same one Laughing

If the repair is carried out as it should be, then it should be ok Rolling Eyes
