Programming Keyfob - 2006 RRS SC

Guys,

I'm fairly convinced that after performed the "courtesy light mod" to make the interior lights come on when I open the doors I have a new problem.

Now my two keys will start the car but neither of them will lock/unlock remotely. The central locking works via the dashboard switch so there is no problem with the CL itself and I have checked the fuse for the RF receiver and that's all good.

Is it possible that the car "lost" the programming for the remote locking on the two keyfobs but retained the "start the engine" functionality ? Is it possible that I dislodged the wiring to the RF module or similar ? Any way to visibly see if the RF module is powered ?

I ask because I did disconnect the battery a few times while testing.....

Lastly is it possible for me to reprogram the two keyfobs or am I headed to the stealership ?

Thanks

Andy

Yes unless you have the prerequisite LR plug in diagnosis unit, you are going to have to go to the dealer.

I had a new key programmed last week at a local dealer. I am told each key is VIN specific from the factory, and the dealer will need both keys, even if they are just reprogramming one!

Thanks I was fearing that.

Do you think it's feasible that a key would start the car but not be programmed to lock/unlock it ?

I'm not technical enough, nor do I know enough about the RRSports electronics to be able to answer that.

I do know that in the event of complete failure of the electrics the keys still work mechanically to open the door via the hidden lock on the left side front door..

But I would be surprised that if a key lost its programming if it would start the car, as I have always assumed there is a cyclical immobiliser that checks the key is valid as you turn the mechanical ignition.. Otherwise we'd be back in the 70's and any old hack could hotwire/force a cars ignition at the ignition barrel!

Where's Bobby when you need him? Very Happy

The plot thickens, I took it into the dealer and they reprogrammed the keys but the car doesn't recognize them.

I assume that i must have dislodged or disconnected a wire either in the bottom of the B pillars or somewhere near the RF receiver for the keyfob in the roof ?

So.... does anyone know where exactly the RF receiver is for the key fob ?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram so I can do some basic continuity tests between where I was working on the splice at the bottom of the pillars up to the RF receiver ?

Help !

Thanks

Has been some issues with batteries in the keys packing up, usually first sign of any key fob batteries failing is the remote locl/unlock.

Over on Disco3 people have had similar problems and when the dealer has re-programmed the keys they still do not work and have had to be replaced.

Another great ploy by Landrover to boost profits, make a re chargeable key that only lasts as long as a normal battery one, but costs a whole heap more to replace Sad

I have to think that the problem is related to the work I did in the pillars.

Anyone have the wiring diagram or know exactly where the RF module for the keyfob is located ?

Thanks

acowx, maybe the problem is in your RF receiver itself?

Your key fob has a PCB that does 2 functions..

1. it incorporates the electronics that generate RF signals for remote operation of the CLS and personalized features and

2. it also incorporates the transponder for engine immobilization.

Perhaps the RF signals are not being read properly by the Receiver or the Receiver is not converting the signals from the remote handset into digital messages and transmitting them to the CJB.

Maybe only the transponder is working well. That is why the CLS is not operating but you can start the vehicle.

I'm no expert - just my 2 cents worth!! Malaysia Boleh!

Look on Disco 3 many people will tell you that 2 -4 years is the life of their batteries in the key fobs, thats real world.

I'm not saying it is but based on the evidence this is the most likley as have not come across any rf module problems yet

Lespes,

I appreciate the comments but I think it's unlikely that both keyfobs failed at the same time....

More likely some bad wire-fishing in the roof by me or some strong-arm when I was splicing into the pillars....

The alarm antenna is in the roof lining in the centre if i remember correctly, the wires run to the side of the car and down the front screen pillar.

There is a 10amp fuse in location 43P of the BCU for the RF receiver, it has 2 wires on it , one blue and one green with a white trace which is the power side.
