Well well, phone rang just as I posted. Talked to a Walbro person.

Seems LR have cut corners.

The pump is a usual fuel injection high pressure pump but with a fuel regulator to lower the pressure to feed the fuel rail.
There is a belt driven high pressure pump at the rear of the engine that actually runs the injectors.

So in effect they have used a high pressure pump, with lowered pressure to feed a high pressure pump.

Very 'Heath Robinson'. I think it is to use off the shelf in-tank solution, rather than a low pressure lift pump externally.

OK all done and working. All faults now cleared. Very Happy

I have fitted a fuel pump from a Peugeot 607 hdi which is the same.

All told including a new suspension compressor I have managed it for £252 in parts.

The jobs are fiddly especially delving around in the tank through an opening big enough for a hand only. It took longer to remove and replace pump carrier and bits, than it did to remove and replace the whole tank.

The suspension pump was short circuit in the motor. The diagnosis only came up with 'short to ground' in wiring, not very helpful.
I cleaned the battery terminals whilst I was at it as they were a bit grey. Battery is in good condition and has healthy charge.
All the spurious faults vanished when car finally restarted. There was a short delay whilst air charged up then a lovely sight as the car rose to 'normal' height. Very Happy Well pleased.

Now anyone want to buy a Sport ? New compressor and fuel pump fitted and fully serviced. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Hi Angel,

Yes I've stayed quiet, although I've looked in from time to time.

I've spent my time trying to survive.

Starting a second business and spending £350k setting it up 3 months before a 'credit crisis' was not the best move ever. Still, hindsight and all that.
Unfortunately it took my first business with it, after 30 years success. Big Cry

Trying to start again, very, very, slowly things are happening. Ah well, let's see what's around next corner Cool

As others have said, best of luck with the new venture Rob Thumbs Up

Hello Tasmod,

Could you kindly advise where you sourced the Pug 607 HDI pump from? (I have spoken to Peugeot and there are 2 types of HDI engine fitted to the 607- a 2.0L and a 2.2L- which one would be the correct one for the Sport?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Shaz

Peugeots and Citroens both use the same TDV6 engine for their more upmarket models, and of course so do Jaguar. The TDv6 was a joint venture engine between PSA and Ford. I know the C6 has the same TDv6 engine but with twin turbo rather than LR's single (Jag version has 2x turbos too) so assume the 2.7lr version of the P607 uses it too so you could try any Citroen or Pug dealer. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
