Hmm, they fill aircraft tyres with nitrogen. The idea being it behaves differently from air at a particular pressure, leading to less wear, therefore perceived to be safer.

Didn't realise they offered it for cars now too.

I have nitrigen in the other car (old golf) and what I can report is a more constant tire pressue independant of the tire temperature and that you are less likely to need to top up the pressure.

I have not noticed any diffrence in tire wear but for the pressue it works well.

i think IIRC nitrogen has slightly larger molecules and therefore is less chance of seepage through normal use

i also think Costco will replace the gas in the tyres FOC if your a member

Laughing Laughing Laughing NOT TRUE!!

Nitrogen has larger molecules than oxygen yes..... but that wouldn't reduce seepage Laughing that's like saying an ant is bigger than a flea so wouldn't fit through a barn door.

Anyway most people fill their tyres with air (not oxygen) which is 78% nitrogen anyway!

Filling your tires with nitrogen mainly does two things: it eliminates moisture, and it replaces skinny oxygen molecules with fat nitrogen molecules, reducing the rate at which compressed gas diffuses through porous tire walls. That means, theoretically at least, that a tire filled with nitrogen retains optimal pressure longer, leading to more uniform tire wear and better gas mileage

Jersey 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Chawton White

I used this in my XK8 tyres. it totally changed the handling of the car as it firmed up the side walls and made the ride a little stiffer.

it was however great to throw the car around with the traction control off. Thumbs Up

Not sure how the RRS would feel with nitrogen in the tyres though Shocked Chawton White TDV6 HSE with Alpaca and Rodium, Automatic Climate Control,

fairpoint NP, you are not to blame, the fool that wrote it is.....i'm sure everyone appreciates how small a molecule is (nitrogen or otherwise) and that is utter rubbish!

Seems like a pain to me.....there you are doing your weekly checks and you find you need a bit of air in your tyres out comes the trusty foot pump and jobs a good one.

Same scenario with nitrogen.....now it's off we drive to find a garage thats got it. No doubt it's not free everywhere. You arrive but your tyres are now hot so you have to wait for them to cool etc etc Yawn Yawn Yawn TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

It does seam a little far fetched when it gets down to molecular structures of the tyres JF Laughing

when I get the new car I might see if it makes any difference but not sure if I want a firmer ride, I think going from 17's to 19's will be quite a change in itself Wink

i would happily wager a not insignificant amount of cash that presented with two identical cars (other than what the tyres were filled with) you could not (10 times out of 10) tell the difference between the two

not least because air = 80% nitrogen

(no offence intended... its just i put this gimmick in the same box as windscreen wiper spoilers)

Wont be as bad as you think in a LR.....17 to 19 in say a BMW is a huge difference.....on 19s in a beemer if you hit a pothole its like crashing!

19s in a LR will still be smooooooooooth and look Cool
