United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Chawton White

A skeptic, huh? Wink You can't see the harness connector in those diagrams, but in addition to performing pedestrian motor duties to engage and release the parking brake, the EPB module also contains a circuit board connected through hard wires, high speed and low speed CAN busses to the rest of the electronic modules in the car:

Here is the guts of the EPB module:

1 Electrical connector
2 Housing
3 Electric motor
4 Printed Circuit Board
5 Spline shaft
6 Gearbox
7 Force sensor

A = Hardwired connection; D = High speed CAN (controller area network) bus; N = Medium speed CAN (controller area network) bus

How the radio and the aircon got in the picture, I have no idea... Laughing But it's no wonder it takes a computer to troubleshoot just about anything in cars these days.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I always put the car into neutral, then apply the handbrake. Then come off the brakes to allow the handbrake to take the strain of the car. Then put it in park. I figured id rather the handbrake shoes wear out than a gearbox!

Not sure if this method is actually helping but its pretty much second nature to me now in all autos i drive. I find the car comes in and out of park much smoother aswell. WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Umbertos lovely pictures at least resolve what the EPB acts on even if we cannot solve why the Radio and Aircon are involved in the EPB! Maybe the radio automatically mutes so you can concentrate on the job in hand in an emergency and not be distracted by loud music and the aircon will automatically crank to maximum cooling to chill your sweaty brow after the "brown trousers" event, all triggered if you pull on the EPB above walking pace .
