Land Rover Sales Plummet Further....

"Specialist SUV manufacturers Land Rover and Jeep have been particularly badly hit by the economic downturn, and the recent record fuel prices. Land Rover’s registrations declined by 57.9 per cent compared to last year, Jeep’s by 62.6 per cent."

Ford must be feeling pretty smart now. I must admit, I thought they were dumb to sell when they did. That said, they got max value and they knew the risks going forward....

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

Ford didn't sell Jaguar & Land Rover because they knew there was a global recession on the horizon. They sold Jaguar & Land Rover because they were losing money hand over fist in the States and didn't have the money to invest in future model development for either of the UK companies.

It's easy to forget that Land Rover made approx one billion dollar operating profit last year, which easily covered the Jaguar operating losses and then some. But it is that kind of financial return that made the Jaguar/Land Rover package attractive to potential buyers.

Production at Land Rover has been cut by almost 50% in light of the down turn in sales but at least things aren't as bad at GM. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Many thought that Ford were dumb to sell Jaguar, at least, which was at the bottom of the curve. The XF was just about to get into production and things were starting to look good (especially given what they had invested in it).

Ford did, I believe, see the market moving in the way that it has. At least, they saw that it might happen. Better to take what they could for Jaguar by bundling it with LR than own it now.... for sure. 2022 P440e AB

No doubt, the news the greenies have been waiting for...........it had to drop at some point, so called credit crunch / recession or whatever....lest us not forget that LR have been increasing sales figures year on year now for ages.....that is a better achievement than some manufacturers we could mention.

I note they do not mention this in their report........but then they hardly would, that's a positive Exclamation L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Remember all, these things are cyclical.

When the credit crunch/recession eases, which it will the money will start flowing again and we will see a real spike in sales of premium cars once more.

All those who would normally treat themselves with such marques, but have been denied over the 18 months or so that this crap will be at the forefront will be itching to get back into their expensive toys and treats once more.

As I said, it's all cyclical.

Incidentally, I see BMW have dropped the replacement for the 8 series they were working on.

Mistake I think, as I said in 18 months or so people would be wanting to get into cars just like that.... Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

If you don't want more bad new then don't look here, OK so there are no Sports listed but there are a few FFRR's at rock bottom. Also a few Pikey Wagons looking cheap as well
