Freelander Xenon light upgrades

Since driving the RRS, the **$$!**$ wife has decided that the headlights in her Freelander are no longer any good and that it's impossible for her to drive her car in the dark any longer! Rolling Eyes

There's nothing really wrong with her lights of course, it's just that obviously when you compare xenon to halogen, the halogens have to "get their coat" every time. Which leads me to my question: her Freelander is a 2004 SE 5-door model - is it possible to get either an aftermarket or LR kit to upgrade the existing halogens to xenons? I found a few providers on the net who profess to supply you a bi-xenon bulb assembly, but surely it's not as simple as swapping a bulb over? I thought they ran a higher voltage than halogen bulbs (therefore, putting a halogen bulb on the 12V circuit wouldn't do much for them).

Any ideas with which to ease my suffering? Wink

Cheers
Steve

Swap the bulbs for Philips blue type ones with a slightly higher kelvin rating, tell her that the Xenons have never been built into a Freelander so therefore impossible the bulb fix is as close as she can get, and it will only cost you about £40 at the most!

IF you CAN add xenons ( I know nothing about Freelanders, Tim will know) I am guessing it won't be cheap, you'll be looking at a minimum of £400 I should imagine. (Going by my BMW 5 Series days, when aftermarket was £400, genuine was £900!) L319 D4 HSE

Change the bulbs to these new type of high output bulbs. AutoExpress has done some product tests and you can see a summary of the results at http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/
I change the bulbs in our ML and it made quite a difference. Matt

Now, this idea I like!! Laughing Laughing

OK, so from the Osram site it looks like the Freelander has an H4 fitting, so if I get a pair of H4+50 single-filament bulbs, I've done the trick, right?

Thanks all! Smile

Yep, I put the Osram Silverstar's in our ML. Made a noticable difference. You can buy them cheap on eBay. Matt

Have you tried the RAYBRIG brand?
They're Japanese and they make very good bulbs. I remember using a set sometime back. The bulbs' wattage were same as stock 60/55 but the output was 130/125!!! Very bright! Malaysia Boleh!

shmoogle, don't know if you solved the problem already.

Recently saw the Philips bulbs.
Very impressive, very bright. The pack also comes with a pair of W5W bulbs for the side lights. Malaysia Boleh!

Hi Bobby, yes, it was the Philips bulbs I ended up going for in the end. They make a major difference, even though they are still halogens.
