Colour combo and resale value

Hello All
Currently have a rather basic Disco 3 and am going to trade upto a Sport. Local dealer has put a competitive package together on a cairns blue hse with alpaca leather and wood trim.

Personally i like the Cairns Blue (My Disco is that colour) but wondered, as the Black and Grey are so popular, do the other Colours struggle to sell.

Any views ?
Rick

No, I had a giverny Green with Aspen and Parchment RRS TDV6 SE that I part exchanged for the TDv8. The dealership that I bought the TDv8 was not my local dealership here in Scotland but Charles Hurst in London and they were a little concerned that the colour might not be popular down in London as dark blues and Black are more popular there............ They shifted the car within 2 weeks no problem. Cairns are not that common but is still quite a popular choice for the RRS A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Tata TDv8 HSE - Stornoway/ebony and straight grain walnut with towpack, Tasmods and an HST grille. Coming soon LEDs in the headlights
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

Black, Grey and Silver always sell - this can mean two things

- In a bouyant market they will always get full book value as the dealer wont have a problem shifting it
- In a dead market the forecourts will be flooded with them and not many dealers will want any more so will offer you a low px

In case of a rarer colour (Blues, Reds, Greens etc) they will just use the colour as an excuse to offer you a low px whatever the market condition

However selling a car is always about finding the buyer who wants it - there will always be someone looking for a rarer colour (but will be they looking when your selling) - you've got a better chance of shifting a Black/Grey or Silver car due to more potential buyers

If your looking to sell it in a couple of years then I'd stick with the popular colours

Especially as my normal laptop for accessing the internet doesn't want to play tonight and I have had to blow the dust and cobwebs off my old PC and get it up and running in those 45 minutes! You would have had an answer sooner if that hadn't happened. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Colour combo's are a real big issue.. but come in/out of fashion as well. You simply can't go wrong with Black, Silver, Grey, at any point in time, but like Kaine said, if the market is slow moving, you will be up against a lot of the same colour too, so price will be the only deciding factor.

White used to be a real odd ball colour that only oddballs would buy ( Wink ) but now its in fashion, and people are actively 'looking' for white sports, so who would have guessed that? but its risky, as its just a fad so maybe it won't be in demand in another 3 years?

How long are you looking to keep for, and do you mostly sell private/pex when the time comes?

A dealership put together a competitive package... hehe.. you sure? Wink Very Happy Past: Bmw M3 Coupe 57, 335d Coupe 56, Audi RS4 06, RR Sport TD HSE 05,

R4Rick - which spec level is the Cairns RRS that the dealer reckons is just what you want? A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Hello chaps, just in from work, thanks for all the feedback

Tim - its a HSE with Alpaca, wood inlays on the doors/dash and ESR was that an option ? Its only done 18k miles in 2.5 years

I can't decide between that or a brand new XS in Stornaway Grey. Its basically an extra £7k for a brand new one and 3 years warranty albeit the XS doesn't have the same level of bits, but coming from a 7 seater Disco 3 even the XS is going to be luxurious !

Decisions, Decisions

R4Rick - the sunroof was an extra cost option, the rst that you list was standard or a no cost option. I don't know how easy it will be to find an XS, the Cairns one has only 6 months of the original warranty to run - before sinking your money into it ask the dealer to show you the computerised service history of the car and from that make up your mind! Is the car coming from a pukka Land Rover dealer or a non Franchise car dealer? A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Tim
Its a LR dealer. They have just done the 30k service on it and it has had new pads on all brakes, two new rear tyres too. Good idea on the printout.
I was thinking of asking them to start their used warranty when the 3 yr one runs out in November ? wonder if they'll go for this.

Do you know of any reliability issues with the Sport, my Disco has been spot on.

Cheers
Rick
