Just recently and during the last couple of years, the government here are started to really strangle everything, and things just seem to be getting harder and harder in every area that i work in.

Payroll: Online, everything submitted instantly, IR on you're back straight away if you don't keep up, no room for leway anymore.
VAT and Accounts, been getting tighter and tighter for years, Auditing has become a real nause with the FSA regulations post 9/11.

Gas engineers have been tight for a long time and have had to shell out loads to get Corgi registered as well as other stuff,
Windows have to be pilkington K and registered through FENSA, therefore no chance or any cash jobs or anything, everything has to be certified properly.
Now Electric domestic installations have to be certified using NICEIC and Part P's... all of the above mean that contractors who have these things charge over £200 a day just for labour then mark up on every part they use. Its pissing me right off..
From 2007, you have to provide all this through home sellers pack with all the certificates for regulations and surverys etc, without it the house will get stuck through legals.

This morning, some guys who rent an office from us came in, and reckon that their business has just been cut apart by the governments announcement yesterday in the commons, the change in the immigration procedure is causing a great upheaval in the procedures which basically entails a new points system where by entrants have to have certain qualities/qualifications etc to even get considered for work permits. In the sense of asylum seekers and other non legit freeloaders entering the country for purposes to seek benefits from the soft UK government, i agree harden it up and make it so hard its not worth their while, but for legit businesses like indian restaurants etc and the like who can't find trained chefs nowadays, how the hell are they going to find the staff and get them over to serve the UK Public? Most of these businesses work from staff on work permits etc.. I can just see labour costs rocketing even more for us all over here.

I hate this government, more than anyone I reckon! It makes my blood boil to sit down and think of all the reasons why I hate them and what this country has become, with it's chav lad culture.

Regarding the immigration laws tightening up, it's no different to any other country for a UK person to move TO. We are always looking at alternatives places to live, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Switzerland. They ALL have very strict policies on who can move there, it's a nightmare.(And we're well educated business owners with sought after skills)

I think the UK has been too much of a soft touch for too long in this respect and migrants expect an easy ride with us, it IS about time that it was sorted out. Our country's population is growing exponentially and as a result of all these migrants coming here and not getting work, you and I are having to subsidise them through our pay packets. It has to be slowed down.

Britain's gone soft, we have no backbone, we need to make Great Britain GREAT again.

Gordon Brown is expected to announce a tax clampdown on gas-guzzling cars in the forthcoming budget, in an effort to tackle climate change and boost revenues.

The chancellor is considering a proposal from the RAC Foundation to create a new £200 top rate of vehicle excise duty, covering cars that produce more than 250g of carbon dioxide per kilometre. At the same time, the Foundation wants the chancellor to combine the increase with tax cuts for more environmentally friendly cars.

Treasury insiders have suggested that the chancellor may announce his interest in such a scheme this month, leaving implementation to a later date.

The move follows energy minister Malcolm Wicks recently speaking of wanting to counter the 'crass irresponsibility' of those who drive large 4x4s around the suburbs.

I agree. I know I am getting old when I start to sound like my folks when I complain about the state of this country now. It never used to be like this even when I was a teenager and that's only 20 years ago. I've seen what used to be a great country go down the shi**er and if I was single, unattached and without a sprog I'd be pulling in a favour to go and work in the US before you could say Jack Robinson. As it stands, it's not going to be so easy given other obligations which is a little annoying.

Plan of attack?

Win lottery. I can buy myself an island in the Indian Ocean whereby I can make my own rules, but big enough for a racetrack and garage space for all the cars I've ever wanted. I'd also need to build quality accommodation for the Brazilian and Swedish beach volleyball teams I'd have staying on the island (for research purposes only of course)

In the real world: Hang tight in the UK, hoping that the country sees sense at the next general election and dumps the current idiots. I'm not saying there won't be other things to then complain about but at least there should be a greater focus on home affairs and less pandering to the EU and yee-hah Bush.

But for anyone who can up sticks and move somewhere else, all credit to them. I'll help them pack their suitcases

I think there has been a great shift in the last few years in a desire to move out of here, and people have taken up opportunites and got the hell out of here, but for me its a case of is the grass always greener on the other side.

Have considered Dubai and Turkey so far, both are good for hols, but for living there? don't think so. Have been told Australia is the best place to migrate to, but never been there so gotta take a look at that still.

Yes, Australia is a great place to live. Sydney is a stonking city, spent my honeymoon doing a tour of Oz... but again, I don't think I'd live there. Sounds silly, but I'm deeply arachnophobic and it would kill me to come home one day to see a bloody great Huntsman sitting on the wall/floor/curtains.  

But dont consider going to Kuala Lumpur Bobby's home........... its simply takes tooooooooooooooo long to get hold of a new RRS

I've worked in KL before and enjoyed my time there. The city seems to have pretty much all you need and outside of town there's some great countryside. Property does seem to be very cheap compared with the UK and from what I saw, there's lots of development going on. I'm sure Bobby can paint us the "real" picture though

...and I suppose what makes it worse is that they have to be seen to be pulling up in a British car, so that cuts down on the choice somewhat. Hey, maybe they could all use RRSs!! The drivers would have to drop to access height before dropping their passengers at the kerbside  

Have always wondered why they don't use Range Rovers, although Tony Blair has a RR in Silver following his Jag nowadays, presume its his heavily armed/armoured escort vehicle, George Bush style (he has a missile equipped GMC jeep following his armoured limo).
