Why is it that in the UK we just don't get car parks right?

In many other countries I have travelled and driven to and in, car park spaces are at an angle, allowing easier parking than at a 90 degree angle. Plus, the spaces are big enough so that you can at least open your doors to the first stop. In the UK, the spaces are frickin TINY, you can't get in and out easily, they stick bollards, concrete posts or trees with raised kerb around them at the front of your space, it's stupid!

Plus, and this is my biggest bugbear, multistorey car parks that have unnecessary kerbs you are supposed to drive within, usually on entry and exits on a bend and on the ramps, and they are only just wide enough for small joe schmoe cars, not a RRS.

I was in one such car park in Stockport today and despite my BEST efforts it was impossible to negotiate it without scraping a wheel. GREAT! Another ding on my alloys. The Chips Away man is going to have a right laugh at me!

If you think the carparks are bad here, you should try taking your car into some of the underground car parks they have in Paris. Virtually impossible to negotiate in all but the smallest of cars, lots of entry and exit ramps that are just tightly wound spirals so you have to drive up them at 2mph with full lock.... And another thing: you're pretty pleased with yourself that you've managed to get parked without damaging your car only to return to street level and find the city infested with f***ing Parisians!!! There's no justice!
