Accident :(

Sat in a line of traffic yesterday and an univited van tried to get in the boot - not happy Sad

Had the towbar on (luckily) and this saved a lot of damage.... anybody ever had similar? How secure are they and should I avoid towing until assessed? (logic says yes of course...) Sad

Inverse V shaped Citroen vans look funny though !

I would get the whole rear alignment checked out after a shunt, it's a "high" performance sporty SUV afterall and you wouldn't want anything nasty to suddenly make itself known at high speed................... sorry to hear about the accident though, the tow hitch probably saved you a lot of bodywork damage. Similar thing happened to a friends wife when she was driving his 3 days old D3. A Shogun drove straight onto their towbar at quite high speed, the D3 looked OK at the time and the Shogun looked really mangled...................... when they got the D3 up on a ramp (he's lucky he's also the local non franchise Land specialist garage so he has access to these things at home!) they found loads of twisted and torn bits under the D3 and it became an insurance write-off. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sorry to hear about the shunt MAW. I agree with Tim, I'd get the car fully checked over. Although the Tow bar is strong, that in itself can be a bad thing, as instead of snapping off and therefore absorbing some of the impact it simply transfers it directly to wherever it's mounted. Remember the RRS does not have a traditional chasis so I'd say better be safe than sorry and have it checked out (On the dopey van drivers insurance of course)!! Hope everything turns out to be ok though Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Sorry to hear of your shunt and glad to hear you are ok.
My ex had a simillar type of shunt with my Sierra, the tow bar took the brunt of it but the end of the drawbar went into the rear diff and cracked it, also it punctured the fuel tank. Shocked there was nobody around with a lit cigarette Big Cry Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Thanks all for comments and thoughts - van drivers insurance called yesterday and accepted full liability - wanted to know if they could help sort the repairs instead of my insurer - Oh yes please I'd love it done on the cheap, bodging and filling to reduce the cost, count me in ! Oh and whilst on the economy drive don't bother with anything other than cosmetics.... idiot...

Hope they can afford to give you something better than a Fiat 500 as a courtesy car Maw.......... remember your employment requires you to drive a 4x4 for occasional jobs out in the field. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sounds promising - Drive assist are providing the replacment car and it will be matched to engine size and size of vehicle, specificall 4x4 - they're even providing something with a towbar - sounds a good service - we shall have to see...
