Help needed connecting laptop to TV

I'm hoping somebody here may be able to help before I trot off to the AV forum.
Just bought a Sony Vaio notebook AR61ZU which has Blu-ray DVD,this works well on the notebook but I've spent all afternoon trying to get it to play through my Panasonic TH-42PX600B without success.
I keep getting an error message which seems to be saying that I can't play protected material through the TV,does that mean that for some reason they've decided to block playback of Blu-ray films from laptop devices through TV's?
I know it's connected OK through the HDMI cable because I can see the demo video and play I-tunes through the audio with the i-tunes screen on the TV.
Hope somebody can help . MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Chris,

Are you trying to view on both the laptop and Pana at the same time? Try just switching to use the Pana as a the primary display (and nothing on your laptop screen).

Alternatively look at software/firmware updates for the VAIO - even though its new the firmware etc may be old

Finally try a lower resolution - 720p or even lower - this will confirm whether the problem is a HDCP (1080p) problem

Let me know how you get on

Thanks guys
Kaine,
Thanks for the info, the link seems to answer exactly as they have all got the exact same issue,I'm a bit Censored at the moment so will have another look in the morning to see if the fixes on the link will work.
I'm pretty good normally with techy things so how do normal non techy people manage to set these things up?
Just wish developers would spend more time making things easier for normal people to set up. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Cynical hat on - Then they wouldn't be so "important" and couldn't charge as much - they have to retain some complicated stuff so we have to talk to them. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Tim,

More to the point, the IT industry goes too quick for any really qualified 'durability' testing to be carried out
