I think it may be higher as Ford have just announced prices rises for 3rd March for 3 of their models, S-MAX, Galaxy and the new Mondeo. Prices have increased by around £400 and thats on vehicles costing between £14k and £23k. Of course the usual reasons have been stated for the rises. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Oh you lucky, lucky sods ! How I wish for a price increase of £450.00 to £700.00 Over here we are switching to a CO2 emissions based tax system after July 1st. We pay VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) on new cars, which up until now was based on a percentage of the vehicles Open Market Value. But when that switches to a carbon based scheme after July 1st, it’s going to equate to a price increase on a RRS of somewhere in the region of 7 or 8 grand ![]() I’ve heard that a FFRR is going up by about 10 grand ![]() Also, our annual road tax is going to shift from being calculated on engine size, to Co2 emissions. The band that the RRS slots into is going to suffer a Eur 1,000 increase annually ![]() So owning a FL2 / D3 / RRS & FFRR here is going to be a very expensive business after July 1st ![]() So while the proposed increase you’re looking at in the UK, is going to hurt, believe me there’s worse that could happen. |

I’m not sure, but I think I heard somewhere that after July 1st, Saab & Volvo bio-fuel cars are going to be hit hard too.

So is there anything stopping you from buying and registering the car in UK and then driving it back home? Speed Limits! not where I live!

Umm thats what I do, I bought the RRS in Inverness, a lefthand drive to UK spec but also complying with Belgian laws. I just have to make sure I take it back to the UK every 3 months, after 18months I can import it to Belgium at a lower tax. |

If as an Irish Citizen, I’m caught driving a car registered in the UK or any other country, without having an address in the country the car is registered in, it will be confiscated on the spot & I’ll stranded on the roadside !!
