2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

This time last year I had a flight from Glasgow to Schipol and connecting through to Hong Kong on KLM like that in a 737 - after 6 attempts to land at Schipol the pilot was going to have ONE more attempt and then we were off to Brussels for a few goes there! Fortunately on the 7th go we landed safely, no passengers were ill but the chief steward/purser couldn't wait until we had landed to make a mad dash to the toilet to throw up................................. and when he got there it was locked for landing........

Have had two "near" landings at Glasgow Airport in BA 757's coming in from LHR........................ and we have ended up back at LHR after seeing the zebra stripes on the end of the runway come up and waited for the bump and then hearing full power come back on the engines as the cross wind gusted to more than 85mph which we later found out is 5mph above what BA allow their pilots to attempt take-offs and landings! The pilot even relaxed the no smoking rules for those who needed a nerve steadier!

I think the most frightening flight I didn't take was sitting in a BA Jumbo at the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport after a typhoon had passed through and there were deluges of rain and watching a China Airlines 747 taxiing out to take off and seeing it start it's take-off run only to skid off the runway and into the harbour! The airport was closed for 9 hours while they recovered the plane undamaged, but we were not allowed off our flight! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That left wing struck the runway. From what it looks like to me he didnt apply enough left yaw and right bank. Usual procedure was followed 99% of the way down. But when he went for the touchdown there wasnt enough right bank to compensate for the yaw. I'm sure the xwind component was considered before but it was within its limits just probably. Have a look on youtube at some xwind landings especially Boeing xwind landing tests. Pretty impressive.
Hats off though he didnt do any more damage. Michael Potter

So Ryanair and Easyjet aren't the only airlines where the pilots don't know which runways/airports to land at then! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

LOL - It's easily done! I failed my first Navigation Flight test back in the 80's when I mistook RAF Upper Heyford for one of my triangle of airfields and flew into their restricted airspace - The yanks weren't very happy!! Embarassed Whistle 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black
