I have a First Direct bank account which basically is used for child benefit to be paid into it and write a few cheques for kid activities out from it. This account is nearly always in credit and if overdrawn is only overdrawn by a few £'s. I have a overdraft limit of a few hundred £ but because I don't use it to it's full potential FD are withdrawing this facility hoping that they'll catch be straying a few pounds overdrawn in the future. What bastards - you try and be responsible account holders but all they are after is a quick buck! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I've recently closed my sole acct with First Direct as all of our activity is now in our joint account. If you have an account with them that has less than £1k going into it every month then they charge you for it. If it has a zero balance, they charge you £10 against the account making it overdrawn and THEN they charge you £25 for having an unauthorised overdraft! To be fair to them, I phoned them to complain and they did waive the £25 fee but wouldn't move on the £10.
