Well, since you insist, here are a couple of shots that the Colorado Tourism Board probably wouldn't want you to see...
The very first day, upon almost reaching the top of Black Bear Pass we were caught is such a sudden and violent mountain storm that the driving winds, rain and hail actually hurt any exposed skin pretty bad, not to mention the ominous lightning strikes landing all around us at 12,000+ feet! Trying to descend into Telluride on those narrow shelf roads and switchbacks with rocks and dirt transformed into slippery soap bars would have been borderline suicidal. So, we had to do a 180 and head back to camp. It only lasted an hour or so, but it was quite a sobering reminder that on the Rockies, even in the middle of summer, the weather can turn into s*it in a heartbeat and catch you totally unprepared. Trust me, to negotiate the mud and suddenly knee-deep water puddles on the way back the mud and ruts program got plenty of use... Fortunately we were driving the perfect cars for the occasion, so it was nearly as much fun as doing it in the sun. ayates, there were actually a couple of participants to GD3 who drove up all the way from Houston, they are members of HLRC (Paul and Gerald), perhaps you know them? Next time I hope you can make it! I told my own SWMBO that there was good shopping in Ouray , I can't believe she bought it and came along for the ride... The place was so gorgeous though, that I am still married despite the distinct lack of a shopping district. |

Me?!? 21" racing slicks all the way, baby! Paul has added some gorgeous pictures to that thread, including a side journey to Moab, UT - which I missed, unfortunately - where this year's big Solihull Society's National Rally will be held: http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p257/PJPR01/RRS%20pics/ |

Thanks for posting that here as well Umberto...would be great if some of our UK forum members would come on the next trip as well...with the pound/euro as strong as it is, would be a great addition to have a few "temporarily imported" TDV8 or other models along for the trip....
Hi Adrian, Glad to see you are still around...I thought you might have left for Vietnam or somewhere exotic. Pity you couldn't join us on this trip, but if you are still around next year, it would be fun to have you join. All you need are a good set of 18's and some Coopers or Nittos, a bit of camping gear and you'll be set to go. By the way, we may have another dealer event in October, so if you've managed to get a decent set of tires for the Buck Blue, feel free to come out again and drive the course in Columbus. cheers Paul PJPR Cairns Blue HSE 180k Miles of Adventure |
