DISCO3, FREEL2 & RRSPORT Off Road Driving Day - Sep 30th

Further to the initial thread started by CY, I have now secured the venue for the Off Road day in September. It will be staged at Parkwood 4x4 in Tong which is just off Jn. 27 of the M62 near Bradford (www.parkwood4x4.co.uk)

This event is a private day at the off road site and will be suitable for complete beginners (full tuition available) intermediates (convoy led) and experienced drivers too. The site has a multitude of different terrain ranging from gentle gravel tracks suitable for all vehicles right up to challenging winch only sections for the brave!

Come and see what your RRS can really do with no pressure from anyone, do as much as you feel confident and no more.

Cost for the day is £35 per car which gives full access to the site from 10.00am to 4.00pm, if you are a complete beginner and require tuition there is an additional £25 fee which represents great value for money and the site is one of the best in the North.

Once you confirm I will need to collect a deposit (details will be via PM)

You can sign up here or over at Disco 3 if registered http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic12765.html

Any questions, please drop me a line.

Tong is an excellent site with a huge variety of terrain in a relatively smallish area. The rock steps would show a D3 or RRS in its full glory and the woodland area is a real delight to explore (carefully).

CFB - Is this a shiney vehicle only event or can I bring the Defender along ? RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Thanks CFB I'll stick it in the diary. Now just got to decide which LR product to bring. Would it be helpful if there is a winch equiped (front & back) vehicle on site in case a D3 gets stuck somewhere as it can be a lot safer and less damaging to recover a stuck vehicle with a well position winch than a tow rope. If so, I will probably bring the Defender if I don't break or sell her in the meantime. And she is great fun for showing those newish to offroading just how deep, steep and muddy these vehicles will go (just ask Chesters Shocked ).

Will Tong allow on site camping (or Campervanning / Tin Tenting) ? For those wanting a stay over and a proper bed there is a hotel just accross the road. Can't remember its name but we stayed there a few times during competitions at Tong and they were cool about having their car park full of trailers and mud (or at least they never complained to me). RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

No camping has been arranged I'm afraid.

The hotel opposite is the Holiday inn, very nice but quite pricey.

A winch equipped car would be good, I need a few marshals so if you could be available for recovery that would be good. Tong can get very muddy if wet and I have got stuck there a fair few times Embarassed

Can you sign up on Disco3? Andy

No takers from RRSport, come on folks these machines are great off-road, Tong is a non-damaging site and great fun. Andy

C'mon guys - it really will be a fun Sunday out.

You've all got VERY capable vehicles, they deserve to have their legs stretched into an off road environment Wink

We're catering for all levels of driver, especially those who havn't ever done it before.

If you're free on the 30th and fancy a change, please do consider coming along - I promise you won't regret it Thumbs Up "CY from DISCO3"

24 people presumed coming along now, including some Freelander 2s (seemingly less capable than your RRS'!).

Still nobody tempted? "CY from DISCO3"

I’d absolutely love it & would have no qualms about getting “Rupert” dirty, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find time to cross the pond around the date in question.

So I can’t commit at the moment.

I will keep it in mind though Thumbs Up

Gary,
I wish I could guarantee the weather, I really do!! Sad Sad
We're hoping for a dry week anyway so that more opportunites are opened up on the course. Hey, we deserve it after this "summer"!!

I'm not sure that any camping is being planned for this trip, so if your wife is more into hotels then you're in luck!! Laughing

You can follow the discussions here on DISCO3.

Would you be looking for introductory training, or just coming along for a drive?
Your mates would be welcome provided that they join RRSPORT or one of the sister sites (DISCO3 of Freel2) and register their interest independantly.

Rupert,
Glad you're interested, let us know if you find that you may be able to attend Thumbs Up

Cotefarmboy is running it and should be able to clear anything else up better than I can Smile "CY from DISCO3"
