Because of the immigrants coming to this country from India, they believe because of evaporation, the river Ganges goes up and when it rains it comes down into our rivers and canals in our country, so they do the same here.

I have seen it many times on my travels, and to stop people breaking open the coconuts for the pittance in side they some times wrap them up in and old sari or some rags, with glass in them, nice hey.
