Rear number plates (UK)

I have recently noticed a few RRS's with a standard size, rectangular rear number plate. Looks a bit lost in the large space. Just wondered if they were coming from the factory with these, or has the owner changed the plate for a regular car size one. Not all of the ones i have seen are private plates, although some were. 2010 Discovery 4

I saw a FFRR yesterday that had a number plate that was totally lost on the space provided - it was one numeral and 1 letter, looked silly but must have been worth as much as the car! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The cars are only assigned plates at the retailer! Each retailer sells their own and can choose style as long as it's legal. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

So i guess the dealer where the car was bought has put standard car size plates on. Like Tim has said, it looks so lost in that gap. 2010 Discovery 4

When you buy a vehicle the cost of the plates are included, but obviously depending on who the dealer is they may try to save a few pennies by fitting the smaller.

I think the bigger plates are around £5 more than the std ones, therefore if a dealer sells 250 new and used FFRR and RRS then he'll save £1250 a year...................... but all his customers will have odd looking cars! The local dealer here gave me a choice of shapes for the rear plate when they transferred my cherished number across to the RRS. Most RRS's that I see have the Rover75/Ford Focus shaped plate with the curved bottom "corners" 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
