Is it petrol in a Diesel car or Diesel in a petrol car?

Basically Landrover strip and replace everything as injectors, seals, oxygen sensors etc. all on the assumption that everything has/will fail.

If you can find someone willing to drain the system you could then run the correct fuel through and see if it works.

I suspect some of the LandRover costs are bluff anyway - remember that one of the LandRover "advantages" is that their vehicles are designed to run on the crappiest fuel available in remote areas of the world, and the tuning people take advantage of this as engines are supplied in a lower state of tune for this very reason.

The yanks run their military landrovers on Aviation Fuel. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Diesel in a petrol engine - probably not too serious - drain the tank, change the filter and fill with petrol.

Petrol in a diesel engine - catastrophe! Maybe you could claim off your insurance. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

And was it a BP Petrol Station.

I understand BP have paid out a couple of claims for people mistaking Ultimate Diesel and Ultimate Petrol - as the branding is too similar. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Oh dear P
That is bad news. Sorry to hear it.
A friend of my sister has done it last week on a BMW 3 series Diesel 06 model, and it cost £5500 so your not far off.
The problem is because of the high pressure it runs at, (1500 Bar) the tolerences are so tight you can't bodge it.
If there is a swirl pot in the tank you have to change it to be sure. You can't trust the high pressure pump after because of the warranty. There are no nozzles available for the injectors to clean them so these have to be re-newed at a price of £500-£800 each.
It is a more expensive job than you would guess.

Best of luck with it. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Dont RRS's have some kind a gadget that prevent petrol from being put in a diesel.

When i say gadget it may be as simple as the size of the hole.

Has anybody tested it, I know I wont be. Hopefully.

O.K. time to cut the crap!

I am a veteran at this stupidity! Petrol in a diesel is simple to overcome.

If you drove it a matter of yards you will have enough diesel in the fuel line and injectors not to worry as long as you stopped.

Simple to overcome. get some jerry cans, take the fuel inlet hose off the injectors, turn on ignition and fuel pump will empty the tank into said recepticle. A few can normally required for this. They get pi55ed off if you do it on the forecort but Hey Ho!

Refill with diesel and jobs a GOODEN. No crap from me I ve done it twice. Once in an escort van drove it about a mile trailing white smoke............... and once in a Freelander tdv whatever thet are! Laughing

It is not a catastrophe as some would have you believe. The total cost on both occasions for me was a tank of bloody diesel. My mate did it inhis Disco 3, followed my lead and also had no problems at all.

Honest, dont panic geezah!

AGREED!

I've helped a few people out now who have done this.

1. Go buy some fuel pipe and an electric fuel pump from the local motor factors
2. Open the bonnet and find the fuel line coming from the rear
3. Break into this fuel line at a suitable point AFTER the fuel filter.
4. Attach your fuel pump and suck the fuel through until empty and dispose of properly.
5. Put a gallon of Diesel in the tank
6. Start the pump again.
7. Once it’s filtered through reconnect the fuel pipes and crank that baby.
8. Look on in horror as it runs like a bag of spanners and smokes like a chimney
9. Look on in happiness as it all quietens down and the smoking stops
10. Keep your fingers crossed

11. Go fill up with D I E S E L

I've done this with normal diesels and high pressure systems and have never had one fail EVER Thumbs Up

GOOD LUCK

BTW. The FFRR has a sytem called PETROL FUEL GUARD that stops you doing this - if you insert a PETROL nozzle it seals of the fuel tank. In the boot you have a yellow stick to re-set the system - NOW why don't they fit that on all Diesels?
