Installing Offical Land Rover Ipod Kit

Right guys, question for you all. I brought a land rover ipod kit from a land rover dealer as my local told me that it is not out yet. I took the kit and asked them to install it for me, they said it would take about 4 hours and would cost me about £400 + VAT . CRAZY MONEY i am thinking. To top things of I was charge £85 for them to update me sat nav so I can use it on the move, got the car back and nothing had changed. Went back to them. I they told that if i wanted the ipod kit install, i should do that before they have go at updating it again as it might cause even more problems.

Has anyone had an ipod kit installed from a dealer and how much were u charged ?

Has anyone had a go at installing it themselves? If so how hard and how long did it take ????

Is the dealer wrong about the sat nav update and should they have charged me ??

Thanks for your responses on this topic

I think the satnav update is one of those things that some dealers do for free and others charge for. I would imagine that if the car had gone in for a service then the upgrade would have been included in all the other electronic upgrades they do at the same time, but you have asked for it specifically so you will pay for the pleasure and also suffer the inconvenience of loosing the use of the car for a whole day wil they do a 1 hour job...........

My dealer fitted the LR iPod kit including supplying the unit for £250.

Did an excellent job and it works just fine! 'Razz'

Have a look at:-

Is there a simple iPOD kit i.e. one that plugs into the head unit and just a has a loose cable that you can connect into the bottom of the ipod. I use the AUX input from the headphone socket but it is very quiet and then yuo also need to plug the power lead into the socket. It obviuosly wporks but a single cable would be much better.

Yes, Belkin make an Ipod adapter which connects to the AUX port and has a built-in charger. They call it the "Auto Kit" if I remember... I think Josh still has his.

Shmoogle - I don't think that's what he's after. I think Halfords do something that does this and I think it's LR compatible, if not there is always the Harman ipod thing CLICK HERE!  2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I guess I am basically just after the exact cable that you use to plug into the USB only with an adaptor to go on the head unit, maybe I will have to invent it with some sticky tape and a large hammer.

Yes still got mine. Fantastic little device that does the job nicely and quite cheap. Most UK suppliers only sell the white version. But if you go on the Apple iPod site they sell the black version that I have got. Or you could try Belkin direct.....but you will have to ask for a European version which is black. The UK version is only in white. They are both exactly the same Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Wink TDV6 - gone
