Cancelled my order - gutted

So I just cancelled my order for a P460e Autobiography, which was originally scheduled for delivery last week.

I was buying on a salary sacrifice scheme with work, replacing a Macan Turbo. I needed a bigger car and the RRS was ideal (I used to own a L494 which we loved). However, due to the cyber attack, the car was delayed and I was told it would now be December at the earliest, possibly January or February in the worst case. I could not get any idea of what was a likely outcome - the dealer simply said they had "no real idea".

The issue I had was that the tax rules for hybrids changes at the end of my lease period, so each month of delay pushes me further and further into the higher tax regime, meaning an extra £600 cost each month at the end of the scheme. So a a 4-5 month delay was going to cost me £2,400-3,000 extra, plus I lost the sale of my Macan, which I had to keep longer because I had no replacement.

I'd waited 6 months for the car already, and my wife and I had spent ages configuring it exactly as we wanted. I'm pretty gutted - I can't think of any other alternative which would convince me to spend money on it - BMW/Mercedes etc are pretty soulless these days. I can't bring myself to spend a ton of money on something so boring. I don't want an electric car and I wouldn't want to by used.

So the Macan stays, even though it's too small and I'd mentally checked out of it. I can't see myself buying another LR product now. What a shame...

Nightmare - gutted for you.
I had the same quandary - nothing else spoke to me the same way the RRS did - though as I'm self employed, salary sacrifice wasn't an option so I plumped for a used 494.
Long shot and ok, not exactly the same spec you might have had your heart set on, but what about an 'in-stock' vehicle.
Is there nothing you could be happy with here - for immediate delivery?

Unfortunately not...the scheme my company uses (Tusker) only uses a certain dealer group for orders, including pre-built stock. I checked and there are none available at present. Plus, I'd likely end up paying more for a car I didn't spec, which is all part of the joy of ordering brand new...

The problem is, when the full EV version of the RRS comes out, I'm also not interested. I don't want a full EV, so it is extremely unlikely I will venture into the world of LR / RR cars again, unless there is another rejig of tax rules (not likely).

The huge benefit of the scheme I was on was that it covered all insurance, tax, servicing, tyres etc. which essentially eliminated the main risks / worries of buying LR products (insurance and reliability/repair cost). That's why I wouldn't buy privately or second hand.

When I called to cancel the order, I was semi-expecting someone to try to talk me out of it or to offer an incentive to keep the order in place. Instead, they just agreed straight away, apologised and said there would be no cost to me. The whole conversation was over in less than a minute.

Oh well.......it was a nice dream whilst it lasted!

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Wow, that page of available RRS looks like a catalogue for a drug dealer/footballer car hire service. Black on black with black wheels seems to be pretty popular - or not as they're all available and no one is buying them.

Whatever happened to wheel-coloured wheels in realistic sizes and paintwork that isn't based on a black cat sat in an unlit windowless room? Shocked Laughing

Ah, found one to buck the trend. https://buy.landrover.co.uk/new/vehicle/gi...nationwide
Green with grey wheels and a non-all-black interior. Cool 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Private - I agree - wouldn't either.
I was surprised by the sacrifice schemes. My Daughter is just waiting for her smart #1 to be delivered (arrived at the local dealer allegedly) on salary sacrifice. I'm very much on the buy used side but even comparing to a 1 year old car less than 2/3rds of the new price, the sacrifice cost was the same or less than buying used and taking out finance. If I had the option, it's very tempting, but only really seems to work on EV as the BIK on a Range Rover made my teeth itch.

I wouldn't be too stressed about insurance/reliability/repair costs - most of that is nonsense driven by people who can't have one so use that as an excuse rather than admit they simply can't cover the cost. Insurance is sensible and even used have 2 year warranties these days, but I suspect you'd struggle to get even a used one for a salary sacrifice price and as you say, no option to choose your spec.

Amazing isn't it. When I was looking for a 3-4 year old 494, I was inundated with drug dealer cars.

Not a fan of black wheels personally but even if you like the look, 3 weeks in and they're kerbed or chipped and they instantly look awful. Test drove one and just thought - no, they're simply not practical.

For the black upholstery, I can live with it, my last Jag was black leather but I prefer the lighter colours and paint wise, why are they all black or grey? Santorini black looks great in the sunshine (when clean and polished) but not under a November cloudy sky. Grey looks, well grey. Depressing.

When I was buying mine, I was sitting in the showroom looking at lines of insipid grey Range Rovers. Not a nice blue or red in the room. Fortunately there was a nice blue with cream leather in the car park Smile
