D4 SAT NAV upgrade to 2005-2008 RRS

The disco boys have been upgrading their D3's to fit the D4 SAT NAV unit.
You can also do this to the Early RRS too.

You fit a new display unit, which has all the navigation built in, (it contains a hard disc).
It will also display a reverse camera image (without GVIF) providing you have a GAP IID.

It's a better touch screen with new graphics and newer maps.

RRS specific:

Remove the top section of the plastic as shown on the D3 site.
Also chamfer the raised part to allow room for the fibre optic connector and GPS connector.
Get a heat gun on the heating duct at the top, and then quickly screw the display in place, so the duct sets in the correct place.

Glue your old screen surround, to the new display.


Parts required.

Suitable denso display (see other thread) (Bosch is not suitable)
Connector shell for new display
Camera adaptor cable (if you are fitting a camera)
GPS extension lead. 3m

Only snag is the display is at maximum brightness. You can turn it off at night though.

Thanks for that, being in NZ this would be very difficult obtaining bits, and getting NZ maps as well, plus reading through the post it only works on the Hi Line systems and not the lower base model which i have got, love to take it on if i was in the UK.

I have fitted this to a 2006 rrs but can get the reverse camera to work i enabled it with sdd but i do t know what else needs doing. I can see image on hidden page.

It’s not enough to enable the camera.

The gap iid does some magic stuff to get it working as per a year 2010 car.

Try saying it’s a 2010 car
And 360 not fitted

Would changing car year do anything to upset the car. Do you have sdd to see whats changed

I don’t have an sdd

Yeah I fitted a camera. Used gap iid to enable. Selected camera MY10

It’s a cheap aftermarket camera

I have an RRS MY08 S/C. I connected a cheap camera via a FAKRA connector to the screen and enabled the reverse camera option in SDD. Now, in the service menu, I see the label "FITTED," and I can see the camera preview, but it doesn't activate when I engage reverse gear.

Will replacing the screen with one from an MY10–MY12 help?

Which option in SDD should I change for it to work? In my case, there were only three available: 1 rear camera, front/read camera, and not parking camera fitted.

Wrong thread really.
But you need to cut one of the yellow wires to the front panel.
To make it full sized RR mode.
There are downsides.

Im sure the rear camera is not on a fakra on the d4 4x4 unit. Its on the second block. 2 wires only

That modification is not needed for d4 sat nav into early car. As the thread is all about that. D4 uses no front buttons.
