Steering issues

Hi

I have posted a thread in the L494 forum regarding steering issues, and am now wondering if it could be an issues with the wheels and tyres fitted to my 2017 sport 37000 miles.

It has had this issue since i got it about 3 years ago, and only happens after about 15 minutes and speeds above 60mph , the car appears to keep altering the steering by tiny amounts.

The previous owner had fitted 22inch alloys complete with cheap tyres, they still have about 6mm on them, wheels/tyres all balanced, 4 wheel tracking also been done and no issues with bushes, tie rods, ball joints or track rods. Wheels/tyres have also been swopped front to back.

Has anyone ever had the same issues or think the issues could be caused by the wheel/cheap tyre combo.

Thanks for reading

Bob

So the key things I take from your post is that it only happens after 15 mins at speeds above 60.
That says 'tyre heat' to me. So they're fine at normal temperatures but when they warm up, they potentially go 'out of round' and give you the symptoms you describe.
There is nothing else I can think of that would behave in that way to give you they symptoms you describe.
My wifes Discovery Sport suddenly developed a shake at motorway speeds, but unlike normal 'shakes' caused by, for example, wheel balancing, it seemed to come and go at random speeds (above 60) and I was unable to pin down the exact circumstances. Did the usual as you did. Balance, 4 wheel alignment, nothing worked. Finally replaced 2 tyres - was considerably improved but not perfect. Went back and replaced the remaining 2 - been perfect since. These were Continental tyres but they had been on it over Covid so at least 7 months parked up at the dealer before we bought it and then didn't get a lot of use for a couple of years following. The tyres simply developed faults and were no longer fully round. Cheap tyres could do this in normal use. It's probably not the wisest to run an RRS on cheap tyres (he says with his just bought RRS sitting outside on "Triangle" tyres Confused ) - but mine seem to be ok at the moment (may not feel the same way come winter) - in your situation, I'd replace the tyres.

The only other thought - though wouldn't be heat or time related normally is, are the wheels LR specific? Different makes are 'hub centric' etc (not sure what LR are) and the wrong wheels could potentially cause issues.
