Pre-emptive sunroof drain maintenance

Hi all, I was doing some research and came across lots of info about how to repair a rusted sunroof drain spigot, but nothing about prevention.

I took my rails off and poured water down. The pipes were rusty but I pulled the headlining down a bit and no water leaking out and coming through headlining.

So to ‘stop the rot’ I have done following.

1) Using a bolt, GENTLY rub in and out of hole. The thread acts as a file to remove loose rust flakes.
2) With a small paint brush used Hammerite rust converter (careful not to spill on paintwork).
3) Leave for an hour and reapply.
4) after 24 hours paint with black touch up. 4 hours later second coat. Push brush right down hole.
5) after 12 hours finish with lacquer. Second coat after 4 hours. Push down hole again
6) after 12 hours pour warm water down to make sure water flows.

Hope this helps someone.

Time will tell if it works.
