From my experience, it doesn't sound like an engine earth as you would still have power to instruments etc (you can check by connecting a jump lead from a soild steel bracket on the engine to a good earth). It could be the main earth. If you connect your jump lead to the earth post of the battery, then to a solid unpainted part of the chassis to test that. |

I've gone down the route of instrument cluster dead. I phoned a local auto electrical guy who fixes them (£285 which I think is a bit steep), but he's local and time is against me with a road trip coming soon.
