Chassis dampers worn out ??

Chasing a rattle on rough ground from the rear ...reduces when loaded passengers.
Detached a rear body shock absorber and found no movement just solid despite a chrome rod and gaiter.
Any thoughts ?? Thinking of replacing with turnbuckles cus it wont rattle with those on ! Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Or, perhaps, just fit the correct item (for c.£60). Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You just dont get it ...dont spend money on old cars !!
Wait till you are on a pension.

For £4 I can buy a turnbuckle and fit it in 10 min to prove if the original has failed.

anybody had the rattling back end and cured it ...
should the body damper move in and out like a mini shock absorber ?????

They did away with the front ones on later cars for some reason, if you still have front ones fitted try fitting to the rear as the same part.

Cheers

You bought a vehicle that is known to require more than a wipe over with an oily rag. And now you're going to bodge everything on it making it worthless in future.

Seems like you've wasted your money already. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Good idea col but I already ordered the turn buckles.

I notice on the fitting that there is an over centre lever to tension the dampers which would imply that there is a spring inside to hold the body to the chassis.

As to the value its not worth a lot now maybe £4k less if it gets written off . If I traded it in I am sure they would not notice any minor bodges...Might notice a bad rattle from the back ..... Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.
