Vibration at motorway cruising speeds

Hi All,

2019 SDV8 Autobiography, 24k miles, just bought approved used from LR dealer. I noticed on my drive home from the dealer a couple of weeks ago (a circa 90 mile journey) some vibrations once I hit the dual carriageway - until then had been a very smooth ride. As you'll all probably be aware, there is a paranoia that is always present whenever buying a used vehicle! I decided to see if I was being "over sensitive" so lived with it for a week - I did a few more journeys including multi-lane roads and decided there was a problem that needed to be addressed.

I took it into my local tyre place yesterday and they checked the balance - all 4 wheels were out of balance they said - and then rebalanced for me.

But - I don't think this has altered things - I wasn't even thinking about the issue today when as I rolled along the M3 I realised I was on a billiard-table smooth surface and there is a definite vibration which I can feel probably more through the seat than the steering wheel.

Anyone any clues as to what might be a cause? Experienced similar?

I think I have a similar issue, but it's hard to nail down.
Anything below motorway speeds there is no problem, however 70-75 I can feel a very slight vibration through the car.
Even more confusing is when I drive our other car I can feel more road vibration, perhaps I'm expecting to much from the Range Rover?

I got new tyres fitted to my 2019 P400e at around 35,000km’s and had a lot of vibration after I refitted the wheels. I assumed it was a balancing issue so I had the wheels redone at a specialist place with Hunter road force balancing. That didn’t make any difference, there was still an issue - the guy did say there was a “hop” in the front right wheel and to move it to the back if there was still a problem. I did that and it’s now perfectly smooth. I am guessing that I swapped front and back wheels when the new tyres were fitted, I took the wheels off and brought them to the tyre centre in a trailer. Current: RRS P400e PHEV HSE Dynamic MY19.5 Santorini

Sounds like the beginning of a bushing failure. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
Born and raised in So Cal. Moved to the UK in 2018 for a few years. Now in Poland and looking at moving back to the UK.

Exactly, had this on both my RRS - the vibration seemed to come from the rear part of the vehicle, however after replacing the rear control arms it turned out it was the front lower rear bushing that caused it. Regards etc.,

Check the control arm bushings, front and rear. My initial guess is a front lower arm will have excessive movement. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Would this really be likely to be worn on such a young (low mileage) car (24k miles/2019 model)?

Was hoping for a reference (source) that I might be able to present to the dealer. As it’s a 180 mile round trip it’s inconvenient if they say “we road tested it and couldn’t fault
it”.

You don't road test it, lift the car and check for play in the bushings with a prying bar. Regards etc.,

In my experience my expectation would be that they’d first road test it to see for themselves what they’re trying to fix (rather than relying on the customer’s diagnosis) - if I was a dealer that’s what i would do too.

So i’m looking for legitimate references so that i can be best prepared. I don’t want to enter into a protracted “battle” with a dealer 90 miles away I’d like them to be on my side from the outset.

Now there is nothing to suggest that they will be difficult! It’s just that in the past i have been brushed off with “we can’t feel it” or “that’s just the way these drive”. I really don’t want to end up in that situation. --

Even with the best dealer and evidence you could be in that situation, just how it is these days.

A for instance, I just replaced front lower control arms on a 2013 L405 because of excessive play in the bushings. After getting them off I saw they were marked 2018. So about a five year lifespan there. This car is a backup to the owner’s daily driver L405, so not driven much in the five years they were on the car. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
