Ghost II Immobiliser

Heard a lot about how good these are but never had one fitted. Reviews on website look good and they claim car cannot be stolen (except for towing/lifting).

Be interested to hear from those who have had one on L461 - any issues, warranty concerns, gremlins etc. also is the installation disruptive to trim etc or all hidden away.

Thanks

JP

Hi,

Had one fitted, at my address, 48hrs after I got the D300 AB.

I used https://www.trackershop-uk.com/ghost-immobiliser.html after a lot of trawling around and mis-information.

The guy that did it usually covers London and the western home counties but was on the way home to Wales, so fitted me on the way. They do cover the whole of UK.

I’m a Chartered Electronics engineer so I watched him like a hawk. Really good workmanship, all joints soldered and insulated, loom re-taped with canvas tape so you can’t find the thing. Took about 2hrs all told including showing me how to set and change the PIN and put it into Service Mode. Yes, a couple of bits have to be removed but what and where is part of the secret, but he respected my brand new car!

Covering London, he’s done about 75 RRS’s including L461’s so I was confident of a good job. His parting shot was to give me his mobile number in case of any issues. Comes with a two year warranty too.

I’ve had it configured on the gearbox, you can remote start it if you need to, you hop in to go somewhere and start as per normal but if you don’t enter the PIN or have a paired smartphone enabled then requesting a gear kills the engine and it won’t even turn over unless you reset the ignition and try again!

Really happy and fully recommend Trackershop ( who sometimes have a 5% off promotion) so £475 fitted.

A couple of days later I got an e-Mail registering the fit on the International Security Register by TASSA.

Hi JP,

Be careful, I had all sorts of responses.

(1) New Range Rover Sport - we’ve never done one of those.
(2) Gearbox immobilise - not sure we can do that!
(3) Oh - that’s a Mild Hybrid, GHOST doesn’t like those!
(4) Yes mate - we can do that but you’ll have to bring it to us and leave it for 1/2 day! (Birmingham - I’m in Somerset!)

I talked direct to Autowatch Technical and a very nice South African chappie told me that all of the above were rubbish!!

Talking to the Trackershop team, they seemed to know what they were talking about and the communication was very good.

Thanks Scrumps - I followed your steer and went to trackershop UK. Waiting to hear from them about installation. I need a gearbox interrupt as I have the remote start 🤞🤞

Www.trackershop-uk.com is the one I used

Www.trackershop.co.uk are a different mob in Leeds.

Hi Scrumps,

Phew - I chose the right one! Trackershop-uk.com. Didn’t realise there was a nearly namesake in Leeds (which is near where I am).

Anyway, got a call this morning to arrange installation next Tuesday. Will be going for gearbox option like you as also have remote pre-heat etc on my ATB

Thanks for your help on this and the fuel filler cap.. be really intrigued and 🤞 for you that your new one fits!!!

Hi JP,

No problem.

Did you get the 5% off?

For me, sharing good info is what these groups are for.

We have two WW2 Willys jeeps that I’ve restored and I have the same info sharing ethos with a load of US colleagues on that group too.

Had mine fit by Safe and Sound in Manchester via my main dealer, they do a lot for the local LR garages so was happy they know what they are doing.

I just had an issue with the latest over the air update, the ghost was blocking it but they are resolving it next week.

My only irritation is they sometimes don’t respond and it takes longer to set off, no good if your driving it as a getaway car. ——————————————

Thanks - I wasn’t aware they interfered with SOTA updates.. that’s a worry. How are they resolving?

They are removing it, updating it and then reinstalling it. Luckily it is all covered via the dealer. ——————————————

Great they are sorting it - but this is making me very nervous about having it installed. Does it have to be removed for every SOTA? The updates coming fast and furious at the moment (with v 4, 4.01 and 4.1 around the corner bringing new features and as mine not done at dealer would need to pay each time if it has to be removed!

Can any one confirm if it had to be removed to allow SOTA…

I have spent a bunch of time reviewing all the chatter about RRS being nicked and how immobilisers fix the problem (apart from lifting).

I am sure these were popular in old RRS that had keyless entry and subject to the dreaded relay attack. JLR started fitting KVMs with UWB technology a couple of years ago to stop this and so when I got my 460e I spent the time to understand why that fixes the problem without resort to aftermarket add ons.

I will not be fitting a Ghost or anything like it as I have read enough to convince myself that UWB is a fix on the basis that even the most high tech robbers cannot deploy a technology that exceeds the speed of light.

Doubters should read this: https://www.securityindustry.org/2020/11/1...utomation/ L461 P460e AB

Thanks MikeG very interesting read. I think the way thieves are trying to get round the UWB is to physically cut into the CAN via a hole in the rear bumper and tapping into the wiring to open doors and ignition?

Having said that - not sure I would want my car if it had had holes cut into it and the wiring messed with!

On the basis of previous post and concerns about SOTA updates and warranty I have now cancelled my Ghost II. 🫣

I won’t know until this one is sorted, I suppose I am in a different position with the dealer fitting it. I have the ability to go back to them. ——————————————
