Locking wheel nut broke

Hi all , my sport L320 2013 has a locking wheel nut socket but there is a black ring inside which is spinning so I can't get the nut off. Any ideas how else to get it off ? I'm changing my rims and won't be using the original nuts.

Unless you have a decent toolbox to hand I would take it to a garage,, they will have the special tool necessary for removing locking wheel nuts. Just wrestled with mine for a day or so after a garage overtightened all the nuts. Needless to say all the locking wheel nuts are going in the bin. 2010 RRS, TDV8
bali Blue / colour coded
side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!
Many years ago,,,,, 1955 series 1 landie , sometimes wish I had kept it

12 point socket hammered onto the wheel locks should get them off. I think 22mm or 24mm works well. Got mine off in a few minutes with this method. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Will give the 12 point sockets a go , if not I'll take it in somewhere, bloody garages overtighten mine too . Thanks guys .

If you are not confident in getting them off be careful you don't make things worse. You say they are overtightened?,,, I don't think a hammered on socket will cut the mustard,,, speaking from very recent experience. If you have the landrover type nuts the dome cover needs to be drilled and split. If they are the mac guard type the Rotating ring needs to be knocked off,,,, or you need the domotec tool. 2010 RRS, TDV8

It's always worth loosening and then correctly torque the wheel nuts after a visit to the garage. Get them early and there's more chance of loosening them. Leave them a while and they seize on.

Of course, we always think of doing this and never do - myself included! Embarassed Laughing

Oh, and get rid of the LR cover-on-nut type and replace them with solid items. At least then you don't have the added issue of a seized nut with a loose cover. Thumbs Up

My current RRS came with solid nuts thanks to the previous owner (thanks Rob!) and it's good to know the issues I had on my previous one with loose nut covers is no longer there. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
