Simple Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

A simple and relatively cheap way to get Apple CarPlay/Android Auto in your car.

There's a number of these type of display units on Amazon/eBay etc, so after reading reviews, decided on one and bought it. Decent screen, good interface and Bluetooth connectivity.

The only issue to me was the mount as they all appeared to come with window suckers or weird looking things to attach to the top of your dash. I wanted something to look somewhat more permanent and not obstructing view. The one I chose I noticed (but not told) has a "Universal Richter" type attachment and after much searching, was able to find the match for a Brodit Proclip. As I already had one, it was a simple matter of 1 minute with a screwdriver. Wires are tucked down/behind the console leading to cigarette socket and aux socket.

Get in the car, turn engine on, device powers up, connects to your phone and all good to go. Pictures are for my XC70 but will work in any car with an Aux input or if without via FM Transmitter.

A lot cheaper & less effort than the faffing I had to do for my RRS to swap out the OE stereo.
