So what is this agreement that some buyers have apparently been asked to sign?

And how enforceable is it? And how will they know who has sold their RRS and what price they received?

"Hey, Mr Punter, just phoning to see how you're getting on with the RRS we sold you last month"
"None of your business, thanks. Bye".
"Er....."

It's just tricks being played to get the punter to sell it back to the dealer so the dealer can scalp a second profit on the same vehicle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Well it certainly seems to work. My dealer is Sytner and here are 8 out of 11 used L461 vehicles being advertised by them on L-R's used website at maybe £20k over list

https://used.landrover.co.uk/approved-used...group_id=4

I questioned my salesman about this last week and I was told that all these cars had been genuinely repurchased from owners and the reason they were priced at a premium was that Sytner had to pay a premium to buy them back. So then I asked why Sytner had to pay a premium to buy back the cars if buyers were tied into an agreement that obliged them only to sell cars back to the dealer. I got no answer to that. Doesnt seem like very good business sense to me for Sytner to pay a premium to buy back cars when they are the only buyer. Of course I suspect there have been some cosy deals done with compliant buyers to sell and buy back vehicles whilst splitting the premium. And who knows whether these are vehicles that could have been delivered to genuine buyers who had no intention to sell them back. It stinks in my opinion

We know dealers are not trustworthy to service the cars, so why would anyone trust them with this load of bullderdash.

Once you've bought it, it's yours, you can do what you like with it. They may not like to sell you another, but then that'll be their loss.

It is balderdash. I've just paid for an HPI check on one of the cars advertised and sure enough there are zero previous owners listed and the car is currently being financed by Lombard under their dealer unit stocking scheme. Basically this car is an ex demo car not a repurchased car. HPI estimate its value at £79170 - £86570 but Sytner are advertising it at £108000, so a handsome £20-25k premium on top of the standard dealer margin.

Basically it looks like the salesman has flat out lied. Why am I not surprised?

If people are prepared to pay that sort of premium in order to have the newest car on the driveway to impress their neighbours, then they're idiots and deserve to have their money taken off them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

So true. As long as people are prepared to pay over the odds, the "chip crisis " will last for as long as it takes for people to realise it's their doing Big Cry

All true but my point is that for at least the one car I checked on HPI there are no previous owners which suggests that it is an ex demo car rather than a car that has been repurchased from a customer. L-R dealers are not allowed by L-R to sell ex demo cars at above list price and that has been confirmed to me in writing by my salesman so either this is an ex demo car in which case Sytner is lying or HPI is wrong

Surely the miles on the clock will show if it's an ex-demo of not. An unregistered car would normally have almost no mileage. An unregistered one with even a few hundred on the clock would suggest it's been used as a demo car. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Showroom cars are usually very highly specified so they can show you what you can get. Is this one? Range Rover Sport: Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S

152 miles is more than is required to take it from the factory on to a transporter and then in to the dealership. So it's been used for something.

Otherwise it's everything wrong with the modern cars - black wheels, white interior, entirely impractical. Obviously spec'd by someone with no intention of the vehicle working for a living. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
