United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
"Smart key not available" error - a possible fix

Had the above error message come up yesterday. Drove the car for an hour, got out and the door wouldn't lock. No beep to tell me something was open, nothing at all. Went to turn the engine on again and the error message was there. Ah, that'll be a flat battery in the key, thinks I. Swapped the battery for a new one (had one in the glove box "just in case") but no luck, still wouldn't play.

A bit of a search on line and find something related to 2010 FFRR with similar issue. One suggestion was pulling the fuse. So I pulled the fuse, left it a minute and on replacing the fuse, everything was back to normal.

So, if you get this error message and you know the battery in the key is good, try pulling fuse 17 (brown 5A) in the passenger fuse box behind the glovebox. Check on the fuse layout diagram to make sure the number is correct - you want the fuse that has a door with key symbol in it.

I'm hoping this was a one off episode but at least it's a relatively simple thing to try if it happens again. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
