Trailer Lights

I have searched for this, but can't find an answer.

2010 RRS with 13 pin trailer socket.

Connected up a trailer with LED lights, and all lights were working.

Noticed no indicator tell tale for trailer on dash, and also reverse parking aids were not switched off, but the rear fogs did.

Fuse for trailer lights then failed (10 amp). Changed several times, sometimes it blew immediately, and other times after a while, may have been when using indicators, but can't be sure.

Checked plug on trailer, and no issues with another car on the same trailer.

Any ideas anyone?

With LED indicators on the trailer, the car won't detect a trailer (hence teltale and park sensor issues)
Some people fit relays and resistors to the trailer to get around this

Dunno what the 10A is. The early ones have 5, 7.5, 15A fuses

10 amp fuse (no 27) is for trailer sidelights.

Had to fit resistors to my D4, as any indicator brought on all 4, but as these work OK on this car, and it knows there is a trailer connected to disable the rear fogs, so didn't think this would be the problem.

Rear fogs could be disabled by a switch built into the socket for trailer. Traditional way.

Solved the trailer sidelight issue, the 'loom' between the socket and where it goes up into the car, had come away from an obvious fixing (not there) that held it up and away from the exhaust.

The 'loom' had be touching the exhaust, melted the sheath and one of the sidelight wires insulation, resulting in basically a 'short' to earth.

As for the car knowing it is hitched up to a trailer, that'll be for another day, as all lights work as they should as it is.

Thanks for your input Andy.
