Proper Poorly Sick

I has a split Intercooler Hose which I replaced myself and I continued to get the Red Restricted Performance come on a few times, I took it my independent who ran a diagnostic, cleared the faults and it seemed to solve the problem.
Yesterday I got the Red light again, which didn’t clear.
This morning big clouds of white smoke and it was not a happy bunny, spoke to my Indy again and called out the AA to get it taken in, AA chap reckons it is EGR valve and arranged for a transporter, which didn’t arrive within the time and when I chased wasn’t due until after the garage would be closed- so rebooked for tomorrow morning.

Fortunately the EGR valves are covered by my warranty. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.

Big cloud of white smoke can also be a turbo. Been there, done that. Fingers crossed that it's not in your case. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Just over 98k.
Update from the garage, right EGR, but want to replace both as the other is likely to go too.
Fair enough tell them about the Warranty and that’s where it goes pear shape.
AA protect lite, will only cover Right EGR, but they want the car dismantled and photos of the valve to show it is a mechanical failure.
They will only pay £47 an hour Labour and possibly only for the Land Rover book time, so I’m likely to have to fork out myself, worst case I’m going to be out of pocket quite a bit.

I asked about blanking and he told me they can’t do it. I suspect because it is a road vehicle and you shouldn’t remove emission control stuff.

They can’t start the work until Monday as it will become a Dead vehicle whilst they wait for AA approval or not to do the work, they don’t have space for that to start until Monday.

On the plus side the tank of fuel I put it on Sunday is lasting well. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.

It's only fair that the warranty covers the right EGR only. It's the one that's failed, after all. There's no certainty that the other one will fail during the period of the warranty so they won't want to pay out for it "just because". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I agree that it is fair they only cover the right valve, although the garage advised they should be replaced in pairs.

Update.

The garage dismantled the car on Monday and sent photos to the warranty company who agree to pay for the valve and 2 hours labour.
The left valve looked new so had obviously been replaced on its own before I got the car and it has been left in situ saving me some money.

The work has been done and it all tested OK, looking forward to getting it back in the morning.

Overall I’ve recovered the cost of the warranty, although I still have to pay for the rest of the labour and as the garage have dealt with it all themselves I’ve not been too inconvenienced. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.

I can see the garages point in wanting to replace both,,, one failed on mine and I had it replaced, , 3 months later the other one failed so its like paying twice for the same job in a way. But if yours looks like one has already been done that's a bonus. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I’ve got her back and all is good, it might be in my mind, but I didn’t notice the initial sluggishness that I have experienced before this.

It would have cost me another £600 to replace the other, so this way if it goes then I can make another warranty claim which will cost me less so, I’ll make a saving. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.
